Many years ago a friend gave me a bunch of original Fillmore East postcards that replicated poster artwork used to promote upcoming shows. This one features very clever usage of the Lon Chaney Phantom in the artwork. The bands at the bottom are hard to decipher, but i believe they are Quicksilver Messenger Service, the Grateful Dead & Big Brother & The Holding Company. The top lettering says ''Trip or Freak''. Must have been for a Halloween show. If you look closely you'll see the little reddish dots on the card are all Phantom faces! [the colors are WAY more brilliant on the original card!] My favorite card of the whole lot... hope you enjoy.

A little info on the original poster and show.

This poster was used to promote the 1967 Halloween (Oct. 31st) show at the historic Winterland Arena in San Francisco. Featured bands were the Grateful Dead, Big Brother & The Holding Co. & Quicksilver Messenger Service. This classic psychedelic image, "TRIP OR FREAK", was designed by the late Rick Griffin, Stanley Mouse & Alton Kelley. The poster measures approximately 14 1/4" x 26 1/4".

Mike, you and this entire group NEVER fail to amaze me...I have a whole stack of these cards. If you're interested i'll post more. [this was the only monster related one, though] I believe my good buddy, Zacherle used to host some of these shows back in his radio DJ days in NYC. I just spoke w/him earlier today and wish i thought to mention these cards to him. I visited the John Lennon exhibit at the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in Soho last weekend where they had the white sleeveless NY T-shirt and bronze belt buckle used in Bob Gruen's iconic photo on display [among other mind blowing items] and wouldn't you know, Zach is good friends w/ Bob!
