Some years ago my wife called it 'sigh fi' because everytime I'd turn to it, it would only take about ten seconds for me to let out a long, heavy, annoyed sigh, and change the channel.

That's a great move on their part! I believe the name Syfy, reminiscent of words used by teenagers who are too lazy to spell, will more accurately reflect their content.

it boggles my mind about how super-hero/sci-fi movies are perennially the summer's best box office and this crapfest of a channel can't even muster up a special about any of them. none that i've noticed, anyway, and here i continually see the freakin' tvguide (?!) running watchmen specials around the clock.

ya know, mike c., the more i think about it, the more i'm with you on this one.

Great point and I agree.

FJA is more likely relieved with the name change than turning in his grave, the channel IS an embarrassment to the genre.  My cats could probably come up with more intelligent programing. The only times I've ever even watched the channel were when they showed SG-1 and Lost in Space reruns, I now have these on dvd and have no further use for the station. As far as their original movies are concerned, I have never been able to watch more than 15 min. at the most before changing the channel, so I can honestly say with pride I have never really seen even one.  The name change make sense to me, as the kind of audience the channel draws probly can't even spell Sci-Fi correctly anyways.  As excited as I was years ago to hear of it's debut, it took no time before I wanted to forget it's existence.
