The silent classic Phantom of the Opera turns 100 this year.  James Rolfe(aka Angry Video Game Nerd) did a video about it on Cinemassacre on Youtube.  A great movie that looks excellent on Blu Ray.

We need to decide on when the Phantom's official birthday is.
According to Mr Rolfe, it previewed twice on January 1st and
26th, then opened nation-wide on September 6th ... or was it
November 15th?  Another source claims it debuted in select
theaters on April 26th. Of course if you want to consider
the date principal photography began, which was late 1924,
we're all running rather late! You call it, GeekDragon.

Personally, I feel like James Rolfe chose the right date. The premier of the version that we can still mostly see today (in the form of the Hampton print).

Happy Birthday, Phantom. I may need to throw you on again soon.

For those who live in Chicago, the Music Box theater is playing Phantom tomorrow night(Monday) with live organ.  I'm going.

Are we any closer to figuring out the significance of the Lantern Man at the beginning?

I watched it. I haven't seen it in years--I have seen it quite a few times but never with the colour or tinting.

My daughter and I are going to the play in Chicago over the holidays. I know it's not the original, but I've seen it performed many times and enjoy it! I'd love to see Dracula as live theater too- maybe someday.
