Assuming you've watched the episode, of what use do they make of the mask?

I recently got a a very similar mask from Japan.  The bolts in the clamps are metal and the scar has been flipped.   There must  have been countless knock offs inspired by the old Don Post face mask.

A killer just wears it a couple of times while shooting at Mannix and it serves to cast doubt on a red herring suspect.
