Do you buy doubles?

Sorry if this has already been gone over. I rarely look at every thread and every post these days. There are so many cool figure sets coming out these days with interchanging hands heads etc. Considering the prices I have a difficult time dropping the $ down on a double buy. One to "play"with and one solely for display. So if I buy X company figure at $32 delivered that means I'd have to spend at least $70 for one figure. Being on a very fixed income but being very OCD this leads to quite a predicament.
Anyone else trying to deal with this?

I open cheap stuff if the packaging is useless. NECA Modern monster stuff from the past 10 years or so. If something is cheap enough, I will get two if I really like it to rip one off the card and keep one on. The only thing I have done this with is Amok Time's Creepshow figures,lol. Sideshow etc mostly left in boxes. saves from dusting and I can star at it from the window,lol.

Funny you should bring this up. One collectible I am huge fan of is the old pressed steel trucks like Tonka ,Structo etc. When I recently got back into collecting these I had NO idea what I was getting into. So after about 6-7 mos I now have 15 different dump trucks, different color schemes and different bed designs. The few neighbors or family that come by always have a weird look in their eye cuz I have a different truck on every step going upstairs in my little house as well as 8' of shelving in my Living room. Going to be interesting when I put up many more shelves for the about 35-40 monster masks I have picked up in the last several mos as well.

I had one rule for my collecting. Never buy 2 of the same item. I mean exactly the same. Not counting a custom of an item or variants. However, recently I broke that rule and bought 2 of the new X Plus Godzilla 62 figure. Now, I think I opend up a new door.

I am usually a mint in box collector. The only figures I usually take out of the boxes are X Plus figures.

 I'm a very cheap bastard, so I seldom buy doubles. The Sideshow 8"ers are the only doubles I have (and some modern horror NECAs). Those need to be displayed. If it's an expensive piece in a collector-friendly box, I have no problem taking it out. I get tired of looking at sealed boxes, though.

Doubles. I sometimes purchase doubles...rarely. Only if I feel the item will become worth selling. As a record/vinyl collector, I do buy multiples.

I mostly like to open toys and display them loose so I can take them out and handle them whenever I want to.  It can also save a ton of room.

I will sometimes buy doubles of very inexpensive items if they come in really attractive packaging.  Sometimes, it's the packaging that is the real attraction.

Sometimes I do buy duplicates.

1- I'm a MIP collector but occasionally I'll buy a double of a toy that I think is a good value and would display well out of the package. The Sideshow 8" figures are a good example of that. I bought 2 of each of the first series of three because they were only $8 each at TRU and they're exceptional. They display like statues costing many times what they were priced at. You don't see toy value like that much anymore.

2- I'll buy extras of something I think I can sell later for a profit. Over the years I've made extra money like this to buy more collectibles with but good deals are few and far between these days.

3- I occasionally buy duplicates of things like playset figures for a project like a custom playset. Depends on price and how many I think I'll need.

I bought a couple of Big Bucket Of Monsters tubes and a couple of Walmart Zombies (with soldiers) buckets and used them to make 13 bags of custom monster figure rack toys in the '60s style along with custom header cards. I kept 2 for my collection, sold 9 over a few months on eBay for varying amounts ($18-$150, avg. about $40-$50 each), and still have 2 to sell at some point. That extra $$$ really helped to purchase more junk for my collection.

Nah, not really into buying doubles of everything, but I haven been known to horde/'army build' items that I'm very fond of.  (Certain Uglies, Krusher monster, specific video games, etc.)

And stuff like THESE guys -- they're so damned cool & charming, how could you not want a heap of 'em?!

I get tired of looking at sealed boxes, though.

The only time I leave things in the box if you don't have to destroy the box getting it out, is when it's a window box where you can see all/most all of the toy through the window.

Dealing comics in the 1990's I was a (victim?) of the "too many Turok's" syndrome. I couldn't tell people who wanted to know if the comic was a good investment that it was! This time period left me dubious of buying doubles of anything. I adopted a philosophy of buy what you want and enjoy the heck out of it. I guess. I'll never get rich in the comic book biz- lol

I make custom figure so if I see a figure with potential, I try to keep 1 original in my collection.

I usually dont buy doubles, but when I see sideshow UM 8inch for low price i'll buy extra so i can open. I have the entire set in boxes, but Phantom, Monster, Wolfman, and Mummy out of the box too.
