I saw "THX 1138" in the theater in the original 1971 cut and fell in love with the quirky, claustrophobic film.  It had wonderful "1984" vibes.  Everything about it was so constrained that there was an overwhelmingly liberating feeling when Robert Duvall's character breaks free at the end.

I bought the first VHS tape and enjoyed it at home as long as that format was viable.  Then I switched it out for Lucas" "Director's Cut" disc.  Unwisely, I did not keep the VHS.  I immediately regretted my decision.

The Director's Cut opened up the movie to milling crowds of subterranean citizens and completely spoiled the feeling of the cell-like existence THX yearns to escape.  It just ruined the movie for me.  I find it unwatchable.

As far as I know, there has never been a video issued with BOTH the original theatrical cut AND the Director's Cut.

I really wish I could find a BLU-Ray or 4K disc that contains the first version that I loved so much.  With Duvall's recent passing, I would like to experience it again.

Does anyone here know of a source for the original on disc?

THANKS!

I wish I knew how to copy it and put it on disc for my hard library.

It is SO much better than the "expanded" version.   (IMHO)

Might be something useful here.

I would think that if you can copy it to your HD, that you can burn it to a DVD.
