Did anyone else collect this? This magazine started my exposure to Marvel, then other comics, the monster ones, then super heroes and onwards.
Some cool adaptions of the five films plus original comic strips and various articles. Quite a few of the covers were breathtaking..I still have the entire run of the magazine and I was saddened at it's cancellation...still, many great memories associated with heading to the newstand to pick up the latest issue. Always made my week!  :)

Issue #1

DARK SHADOWS:

David Collins: "Dead people dont just get up and walk around.."

Sarah Collins: "Sometimes they do."

I enjoyed them back in the day. In fact, I used to have a few copies of the first issue. Naturally I wish I'd kept them. I was fond of the movie reviews in the first issue, especially that the editor gave props to Conquest, my favorite of the series.

I enjoyed BENEATH and CONQUEST as my two favorites out of the series. One thing that I noticed about the comics' adaptions of the films was that they went by the original film scripts and not by the actually films themselves, something which led to some interesting takes on certain scenes from film to film.

I bought a few of these when they came out in the '70s. I currently only have #1 in my collection. I have practically every other Marvel monster mag in my collection with the exception of some of the Savage Sword Of Conan issues. I regret that I didn't go after the Planet Of The Apes issues back when all of these were inexpensive. They're all very cool, and important examples of a great time in our lives as comic/monster mag readers and collectors.
ALWAYS MONSTERING...

A great magazine, I have all the issues. I just wish some of the covers were a bit better and that they didn't trim down the mag size partway through the run. I also wish that they had went ahead and done all the movies when they transferred it to the Adventures on Planet of the Apes comic book.

I still have a couple of issues- the majority of them lost their covers and they've yellowed a bit but I still look at them from time to time.

This is my favorite cover of the entire series. I think if all the covers were up to this caliber, this would be THE Marvel magazine to collect. For anyone who has read the magazine, there are a couple of things that always seemed odd to me: first of all, being an "adult" magazine, I was a bit surprised that they had to soften Charlton Heston's final (G-rated) Statue of Liberty dialogue, as well as Ceasar's outburst from "Conquest". Also, in the magazine, the astronauts are given pants for their nude swim; but in the "children's" comic book reprint, these pants mysteriously disappear, and the team is back in the buff! I could never understand this; never-the-less, I still enjoyed the magazine immensely.
