I enjoy A&C Meet Frankenstein, although I do find it a little bit sad that it is the finale for the "classic" trio.  A really good dramatic cap to their stories would have been grand.

In a personal aside, I introduced my daughter to classic horror when she was about 5 or 6, and was thoroughly a fan of the Disney film "The Little Mermaid" which she would play first thing when she got up on the weekends when her mother and father were sleeping in.

Anyhow, after asking if she'd like to watch a movie that was a bit scary with her dad, and explaining that the monster was really a man in a suit, we watched "Creature from the Black Lagoon".  And then she switched from many days to of Disney sweetness to watching the Gillman terrorize the crew and passangers of the Rita.

Bringing terror and death across 4,000 years!

Frank,
That was a great piece you wrote on Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein.
The part about the scene in Fright Night was spot on ! I used to watch this scene and wonder
why it seemed so familiar to me. Now I know ! I also happen to be a big Fright Night fan as it
did seem to have an old fashioned flavour for an 80's movie.

I just want to know, am I the only person here who totally disapproves of the Abbott & Costello versions of the classic horror flicks. I find them terribly cheesy and desperate for a laugh, and I think they put an awful damper one the classic horror originals! Hate me, curse me, go ahead, just needed to express that, lol

Your profile says you are 24.  I can understand a 24 year old not liking the A&C films.  The humor is from a different era.  That cheesy, cheap laugh stuff is what a lot of us grew up with in the 50's and 60's, and even into the 70's.  Comedy rarely hold up over the years.  The social and cultural references are lost and forgotten and a lot of it's impact is topical and current in the day when it was made.  For me, A&C Meet Frankenstein especially is a warm spot in my heart, and I don't think you'll find many of us old farts who aren't very fond of it.  If I hadn't grown up with that film and the style of humor in it, I'd probably feel just the same as you.

age gap? maybe true, but the comedy isnt really my complete point, its just the fact that sure, A&C Meets Frankenstein for example, haha, good classic stuff...but then when u got A&C doing a sequel for every horror movie put out, why not have A&C Meets My Mother-in-Law. sure its good stuff, but i get tired of seeing it is all, and thanks everyone for not rippin into me,lol.

Yeah, but that's what happens with horror films.  Look at Friday the 13th...  Part 27 - Jason vs the Harlem Globetrotters  ;D

I used to love Abbot and Costello so I have no problem with the movies.  They are really cheesy but fun.  In fact, A&C meet Frankenstein is acting as the "gateway drug" for my son (7 years old), fueling his love of American monsters (he's already grown out of Godzilla and Gamera).

Wow, your son is more mature than I am.  I still love the Gamera's and Godzilla's!   ;D

Fear not dear Squeege, we are all family here (reaching for the tar and feathers). As monster fans our likes and dislikes differ from one another, but we are united in our obsession for our beloved monsters (testing the guillotine and rack). Your oppinion is as valid as any, so keep sharing it.

When I was a little kid, on Saturday mornings there was one tv station that would show old comedies...mostly A&C or Laurel & Hardy movies. I preferred those to cartoons and the A&C Meet movies were my first introduction to the classic monsters. I still love them to this day!

I'm only 35 and I never really grew up on A&C or Laurel Hardy but  my Pops is a big fan of Abbott and Costello and I acquired a love for Laurel and Hardy by watching March of the Wooden Soldiers then picking up their movies and shorts afterward. Personally, I think Laurel and Hardy is far superior to Abbott and Costello but I do enjoy the comedy of A&C  and still do when I put on a movie now and then. Try watching some of their other efforts, Time of Their Lives or Hold that Ghost and even A&C go to Mars. Their comedy is innocent to today's standards and yet still quite enjoyable.

As far as old-time comedy goes I prefer Buster Keaton over Abbott and Costello, with the exception of A&C meet Frankenstein. I love that movie.

I think A+C Meet Frank is one of the best movies of the 40s. Not just of monster movies. It is beautiful to look at.

A+C Meet Dr. Jekyll and Hyde placed Hyde in the Universal pantheon, where, let's face it, he belonged. And gives us an evil Karloff Jekyll in for the bargain. I love that movie too, though I recognize it is not a GREAT film the way A+C Meet Frank is.
