I am about to go and see the new Star Trek flick.  I am somewhat excited about it, partly because I have a "feeling" it will be good, partly because I heard back from some people who saw it, and they said they liked it.

Now, I was not really a fan of the first film in this reboot series.  A lot of people liked it, but I was a little disappointed by the story.  What I hear is that this new movie drops the time travel stuff and gets into straight-up action.  I hope I like this new approach!  Whatever the case, I am forking over my pennies and giving it a chance.  Maybe some folks would like to post some reviews! :)

Okay--saw the movie, liked it--not the 10 I was hoping, but maybe a solid 7 or 8. Pretty good!   It was what I wanted in terms of being linear and being mostly action.  And it was lighter than I expected--funnier, with many jokes formulated, of course, with fans in mind.  I saw it in 3D, and the 3D effects were great.  Overall, my impression was that this was a very good popcorn film, nothing terribly deep, just a fun ride with violence, a lot of effects all over the place, and decent acting that recalls the characterizations of the TOS crew.   If you like Star Trek to begin with, I would say, you very well might like this one.

The Batman

'Enjoyed the 5:10 PM show in our area. My wife and I are very pleased about it.

Kirk & Spock are played better than the previous movie. Scotty, Bones, Checkov & Sulu were also great.

There are a few laughs for fans and I enjoyed the plot twists.

Not a predicable movie, for the most part.

I loved it! I've been a Trek fan since the sixties, no i'm no newbie fan boy, and I thought this film was a blast. Great FX, good performances, plenty of action and suspense and a very interesting plot (loosely based on a classic TV episode)
A great way to spend a couple of hours.

The Batman

Here's a nice glamour shot of the new Enterprise:

It's normal for most of us to like the older, classic starships.

But I'm happy the new model is not too overdone...

Finally got to see it today!  I really enjoyed everything about it! It was nice to see Spock in an awesome action scene! It went by so fast! And for the first time in history- my husband and I noticed that we had ALL good trailers before the movie! woohoo!

Inkfink

Enjoyed it! Looking forward to seeing more of the series!

A decent action movie, but nowhere near as good a STAR TREK movie as the 2009 reboot.  Carl Urban, who stole that picture with his spot-on tribute to De Kelley, is woefully underused this time out, and the dramatic passing of a central character is ruined for the sake of a cheap laugh.  Sadly, the film's schizophrenic desire to please longtime fans while attempting to attract new ones reminded me of Bryan Singers botched attempt at rebooting SUPERMAN; like INTO DARKNESS, that film tried to be all things to all people and the result was an uneven and ultimately unsatisfying adventure.  Thankfully, INTO DARKNESS isn't quite the debacle SUPERMAN RETURNS was, mainly because Chris Pine continues to capture the essence of Kirk without parodying Shatner and the likable supporting cast seem so comfortable in their roles.  Top-notch effects are to be expected these days, so the film looks great even when the story is going off the rails.  In summation, here's hoping the next film will be less concerned with looking back and chart a course of its own.

I've not seen the 'new' Star Trek films, although I have seen the first film series (films 1-5), and of course the many editions of the Star Trek franchise. I've been into Star Trek lately, not because of the new film though. I really love the characters of Spock and Sulu, and enjoy the older works of Star Trek the best. I can't bring myself to watch the 'new films', it doesn't seem like Star Trek to me. I think I'll watch the older stuff instead.

Steve, if you haven't seen STAR TREK VI, you're missing out on one of the best films in the series, especially if you're a Sulu fan.  The NEXT GENERATION pictures are a mixed bag, but the 2009 reboot is a real treat for fans of Classic TREK.

Mostly it was good, but I think it ended in a mess and there was one scene that really lot it for me, akin to King Kong skating around Central Park on his butt level of disappointment.  Don't regret having seen it, but my rating is more like a 6 of 10.

Yeah, I've seen VI, but it's been awhile. I love the way Sulu looks in it. He looks awesome.

Oh, you said you'd only seen the first five...

Why do I keep getting an error message when I quote you???  :-[
