Great post Greg!! The poster art from that era in Horror, Sci-Fi, and Noir has never been duplicated for sheer artistry and imagination.

Thanks man! I couldn't agree more! Even when they were com random and inaccurate they are still just as mesmerizing and awe inspiring. The way they depicted the Frankenstein Monster as a giant towering creature with lasers coming out of his eyes is just as awesome as it is wrong!

Yeah, they definitely weren't sticklers for accuracy  ;D ;D. But then again, I've never actually met a woman with 3 breasts , so Picasso wasn't exactly accurate either. WHO CARES!! IT'S GOOOOOOOOOOOD!!  :D :D

creaturerevenge- Those are really cool! I think I signed up for your blog, so I'll have to go back and read the details once I settle in for the night! The foreign movie posters are always so interesting- especially when you read some of the title translation

Mike Scott

Some cool posters there Greg! Hadn't seen those particular foreign ones before. Polish posters out-weird the Swedish ones, though.

My favorite "movie's nothing like the posters" decade has to be the '50s. See THE WASP WOMAN (so much cooler than the movie!),  INVASION OF THE SAUCERMEN (also much cooler than the movie!), ATTACK OF THE 50 FT WOMAN (looks more like 500 in the poster!) and BEGINNING OF THE END (scope the fangs on those hoppers!!)

The Frankenstein isn't tecnically a poster, though. It's an ad/announcement from an exhibitor's book. The studios sent these books out to the theaters to show what movies are in the pipeline. See these old blog posts of mine for more of these. http://monstermagazines.blogspot.com/search/label/Trade%20Publications

creaturerevenge, I dig the article you wrote. Interesting take on the FRANKENSTEIN poster.
