Is anyone in the UMA an expert on Hot Wheels and Match Box cars?

My Aunt recently dug up a box of my old toys in my grandmother's basement. There was some interesting stuff in there, but I don't think much of it is particularly valuable. Some of it is cool, however, like my pygmy gorilla from an old G.I. Joe adventure set. Or my first record player, a lime green Disney "Aristocats" turntable. The weirdest thing in the box was an electric scissors!

Anyway, there are a couple of Match Box carrying cases full of Hot Wheels and Match Box cars, all dated from the late 60's to the mid to late 70's. Nothing is mint, of course. All the cars were well played with, but they're all in good condition. I always took pretty good care of my toys. I got a little educated online and in a price guide book at the bookstore. I don't think all of them are very collectible, but there are a few that could be rarer ones. I'm not a Hot Wheels expert, however. In fact, I've given those toys very little thought since childhood. Is there anyone here who collects these things or knows what to look for?

I used to collect these until around 10 years ago tho due to bills they are long gone.
Matchbox aren't that big a deal unless you have the earlier grey wheel or certain black wheel. The box is half the value of the car due to the graphics and numbering system.

The hotwheels that are the most valuable from that era are the Redlines. Condition is everything. I used to know some real anal Hot Wheel collectors that would spend big $. There are rarer variations on certain cars such as a louvered rear window on the mustang ,different colored interiors or a black roof. Certain colors are sought after especially the hot pink. Muscle cars are worth more than the race cars or hot rods aside from the snake and mongoose. For the muscle cars the most sought after is the 442. If you are lucky enough to have a road king tipper truck ,that is prized piece. It was made only 1 year and only came in the mountain mining playset. I had one NM with the little crank that made the bed tip. I sold it in 1999 for $400.

I would say your best bet is to look at the closed auctions on ebay for each particular hotwheel you have and go from there.

I've done a little research and I think one of the coolest cars I have is a mint condition Zowees Numb Skull. It is supposedly pretty rare. It's smaller than Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars and has a Big Daddy Roth vibe. There are a bunch of Hot Wheels Redlines, some Mathchbox cars, a couple of off brand stuff like Corgis and other oddities, but I think the Numb Skull is the coolest.
