On Febuary 27th 1969, Mr. John Boles passed away. He played the part of Victor Moritz.

John Boles was a fine singer in the 20s-30s era, but monster movie fans the world over remember him for his supporting role in FRANKENSTEIN.  A very good actor and singer was Mr. Boles!

I, too, enjoyed his voice. and wished he could have done more singing.  I've always wondered how he would have done RAVENAL, in James Whale's  SHOWBOAT.  He had a very good acting  rapport with Irene Dunne.

He was a brilliant presence in KING OF JAZZ, the Paul Whiteman extravaganza filmed in 2-strip Technicolor in 1929/1930, too.  Yes, he'd have been a great choice for the James Whale SHOWBOAT, I agree.  But Allen Jones and Irene Dunne were a good match!

By the way--before he begain work in films, Boles was an American spy in Germany, Turkey and Bulgaria during WWI!  He led an exciting life even before meeting the FRANKENSTEIN monster!

He also sang the title film song "Curly Top" to Shirley Temple.  Oh...my...goodness! ;)
