I was looking out early mummy stories.  it seems most are humor based or satire. whats the classic horror story for mummys?  (the mummy version of Dracula, Frankenstein)

Poe, Conan Doyle, and Stoker all wrote short pieces - Frank Belknap Long also wrote a couple of stories....

Universal's "The Mummy" was pretty much a film-created creature. The story began as "Cagliostro," about a wizard/magician character. John L. Balderston had been one of the journalists covering the opening of King Tut's tomb, and added the Egyptian elements that changed the story to "The Mummy." So, there's no real literary source for the story, per se. Poe, Conan Doyle, and Stoker's stories have as much to do with "The Mummy" as "The Werewolf of Paris" has to do with "The Wolf Man."

I found this collection of mummy stories online:

Here is a comment on the book:

It has the mummy stories by Mr. Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle, Bram Stoker but not the one by Frank Belknap Long. There is one by Tennessee Williams and Ray Bradbury though. Looks like good mummy reading! Think this'll have to go on my Amazon shopping list.

There's also the Dark Horse novel, "The Mummy: Dark Resurrection," that's a direct sequel to 1932's "The Mummy."

I love turning people on to this site, here is a link to the specific mummy section over at horrormasters.com http://www.horrormasters.com/Themes/Mummy.htm
That site is so awesome, thousands of classic horror stories, the majority of which are from the 1600 and 1700's all the way up to the early 1900's. It ROCKS
