Open letter to Jim Clatterbaugh:

Jim, I got the new issued of MONSTERS FROM THE VAULT in today's mail, and was so excited when I opened the mailer.  What a brilliant Daniel Horne cover of Elsa as The Bride of Frankenstein!  And I know I will be enjoying reading and looking at this issue today, tonight--as I do every issue.  It means a lot to me to be able to take my mind off my own day-to-day cares and woes with some welcome monster reading!

But I see this was a very special issue for you as well, for a very different reason, for inside the front cover I saw the memorial notice for your brother Dennis.  And then I read your View from the Vault and I sit here now with tears in my eyes--and I know that many another MFTV reader will experience the same feelings when they read it, too.  The loss of your brother, Dennis, and then so shortly after that, of your sister, Doris, is an incredibly sad event--and to put one's feelings in words regarding such a tragic circumstance would be, I think, nearly impossible for most folks.  But how wonderfully you tell their stories, my friend, and how vividly you describe the personalities of your brother and sister.  To say that I  feel as though I knew them would be going too far, but I can tell you this--I wish I HAD known them.  Your words painted a wonderful picture of them both, and I send you my sympathy, in all sincerity, from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you, Jim, for opening your heart to us monster kids and for allowing us to share your feelings.  Wishing peaceful rest for your beloved monster-kid brother and your kind and generous sister...
