Pretty decent, and great monster effects. (Plus lots of them!)

Yes I enjoyed The Host a lot, great monster movie ambiance.  And a very cool and scary Monster!

Toy Ranch

I thought that scene at the beginning was absurd and poorly done and totally unbelievable, but after that it turned into a very enjoyable movie.

I thought the monster looked way better than cloverfield, but the movie was pretty good. I can say it was better than Dragon Wars.

I like the Host and have it on DVD, but I think the film has a dissatisfying ambivalence.  I'm not sure what I am supposed to take away from it.  It feels like a movie at odds with its own themes, as if the director was not sure what he was trying to say.  It wouldn't matter if it was just a popcorn movie, but this is obviously intended as a serious film.

I saw it as an exploration into the absurd lives of absurd characters, who experience genuine character growth in the process.  This type of storytelling is common in Asian cinema and TV, especially anime.  The sci-fi monster is almost inconsequential to the plot, but for me it all came together nicely.
