Boy, I'd never gripe about getting to 91, but I still am sad to see him go. God, the impact that guy has had.

I read and re-read Salinger's stories when I was young--not just CATCHER, but his great NINE STORIES (with FOR ESME--WITH LOVE AND SQUALOR), and of course FRANNY AND ZOOEY and RAISE HIGH THE ROOFBEAMS, CARPENTERS--and found it amazing stuff.  It's been many years now, but I have a feeling I might find it just as immediate and rich today.  Here's the real "Holden Caulfield" as a young writer:
