The Drunken Severed Head

Same here, Raymond! Rocky Horror's great, but I want to experience seeing  A VICTIM BEHEADED ONSTAGE! MONSTERS THAT COME OUT OF THE MOVIE AND CARRY OFF A MEMBER OF THE AUDIENCE!...etc.

Closest I've come to a spookshow was at a carnival-- saw the classic act where a woman changes into a gorilla and escapes her cage. Fun, fun, fun!

Many thanks to gracebuster, because Dr. Shocker's magic show in conjunction with the "Bride of Frankenstein" screening a while back is technically the only spook show I've seen!  I generally just watch the material on the "Monsters Crash the Pajama Party" DVD and sigh dreamily...
Beautiful moving, shifting colors!

Myself and my good friend Christian have been talking about putting one on for a couple of years now, but just haven't managed to get it done.  Perhaps this year.  It's got to be the gross out magic, and Christian has the connections to the perfect stage magicians who would love the chance to do this.  Possibly as a kick off to a weekend long Classic Horror film fest.

In 2004, a group (who I think were mainly dealers in mem0rabilia and DVDs) put on a spookshow in a movie theatre outside Scranton. Not very slick, but fun--some magic, gorilla running through the audience, prizes for the audience, beheading of a girl. The movie was Blood Feast.

Sorry, but Rocky Horror is NOTHING like a good spook show.

I've said it before but as Mike pointed out, get the book GHOSTMASTERS. It's amazing especially if you don't know anything about the history of spook shows.

We have held several spook shows over the past few years here in Nashville. We host them in a cozy little theater above a coffee shop.

The best one we did was for "Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things." I built a grave mound and tombstone, and had it up next to the screen. Unbeknownst to the audience i had an actor in a zombie costume under the grave lying patiently - At the point in the film where the character reads a spellbook to bring the dead back to life, his hand pushed up from underneath and he crawled slowly from the grave - a woman in the audience started screaming her head off and our zombie grabbed her and drug her off. Crowd LOVED it!

That sounds like a ball.  Was she planted or spontaneous?

Here is a link to a website about spook shows

Thanks for the link, Gary.  That was a really interesting site.

Oh, she was a plant. She was the zombie's wife!

Now, that CSPWDT show sounds like it was a hoot!  Still a very effective movie, too.  They generally don't make 'em any weirder than that.

Man, I'm with you there Neon Noodle...

A truly creepy film featuring a host of very angry zombies who were pretty pissed off about the satanic ritual that brought them all to life.
None more so than lead Zombie, Orville. It's a rare moment when one single zombie can be terrifying.

Orville is mocked, dressed up, abused and molested, and yet he stayed stoically dead and stiff throughout.
Later as the wicked Alan tries vainly to escape the attacking zombie hordes and his fate, he locks himself in the room with Orville, and turns to see him simply SITTING UP IN THE BED staring at him. Not looking too happy...

A real creep out moment.  And the music (well, more sound effects tracks)...and weird ambient noises...make Children a real spooky treat.
Rest in Peace,
