This is truly sad news!  What a fine actor Malden was--just about genius level in STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE in '51---fun in PHANTOM OF THE RUE MORGUE a few years later.  I admired him in GYPSY and BIRDMAN OF ALCATRAZ and he was unforgettable as Red Sox player Jim Piersall's dad in FEAR STRIKES OUT with Tony Perkins.  Endless military & western roles, dramatic turns--he was an actor's actor, without doubt.  A new star in the heavens tonight!

I have reached that age where each week brings the sad news about personalities of my childhood passing on....  Rest in Peace Karl....

He was good and versatile actor.  He had considerable stage experience. He played good guys and villains.  He starred in westerns, mysteries, horror and war movies; romances and action movies.

AND -- rarest of all -- he was married to the same woman for 70 years.

I remember him most for portraying General Omar Bradley in Patton. 'George, I'm an old soldier!' Eh, what a voice.

Rest now, Karl.
