And thank goodness he was lying on his stomach, or you might have gotten a peek at the Bat-Pole.

Scatter, you're too much!

i grew up reading 70's batman comics and watching reruns of the adam west batman. even as a kid i thought the comics and animated versions of him were just lame and didn't do him justice as a character. as a character, i have to go with bale and the adult-oriented graphic comics. it was obvious to me even as a ten year old that batman is a disturbed individual. this thought ran through my mind even then and flew in the face of all the versions of him produced at that point.

for my money (and because i like things to be realistic in terms of character), the more disturbed he is, the better.

keaton's batman was a joke, imo. i thought it comical more than anything. still, he came closer to what i thought batman should be than anything else til then, and it's one of the few movies tim burton has made that's actually watchable more than one time. (burton, imo, has a knack for delivering beautiful scenery but can't tell a compelling story. his upcoming 'alice in wonderland' 'reimagining' or whatever you want to call it does not exactly inspire me with confidence that it'll have a good story, but i'll bet it's damned pretty to behold.) neither clooney nor vilmer were believable batmen, just watered down, pale imitations meant to squeeze a few last dollars out of a dying, if not dead, franchise.

for me, the closer the batman character comes to some semblence of reality, that of a nocturnal avenging vigilante, the happier i am.

the animated series was beautiful and stylish with good stories, and that takes second place for me.
