I'm trying to find the manufacturer for the Chip Away series now... alright, it was Kenner. The Flintstones Chip Away came out in '73, I believe. I am now trying to find any monster version of it.

Here's a pic of the Flintstones "Chip Away". Kenner also made a "Whittle Away" set. Don't know how that worked?

I was thinking about that too... I would think that, instead of a hammer/chisel process, you whittled with a pocket knife on wax that looked like wood, and ended up with a wooden carving?

Toy Ranch

There is not a monster toy as you describe that any of us are aware of ever existing.  That does not disqualify the possibility that one did, however you are talking to a group of advanced monster fans and collectors, some of whom have been at this since the 1960's.  If you find what you are looking for, I'm sure we'd all be extremely interested in knowing more about it.

Probably a toy knife, like the hammer and chisel. I saw some recent/current toy sets, that were something like this, where you dig for dinos.

Well yes, I figured it would be plastic or something, hahah! At any rate I still haven't found any examples or pics of Whittle Away online yet, nor in any of my books. Maybe there were monsters in Whittle Away form; after all, Kenner made the Shaker Maker kits which we know DID have Dracula, Mummy and Frankenstein figures in one kit.
Eh, still lookin' around.

your right there is the possibility that I'm remembering incorrectly.  I honestly thought it was a monster themed set.  Maybe it was a flintstone set.
