This looks very promising.  Love the atmosphere.  Hopefully, this is a fresh start to a dark Universal world that treats the classic characters with respect.

Wait, weren't women on ships bad luck? Your right, we know how this supposedly ends.

There was a comic called Death Ship: Last Voyage of the Demeter.  I wonder if this is based on that.

Saw this on Saturday and enjoyed it for what it was: a gothic monster movie. Great acting, production design and overall atmosphere. Not a great film, but a good one worth seeing on the big screen. First movie I saw in the theater since before the pandemic.

I saw it and liked it, tho it does have some problems.  It does have good acting, and kind of reminded me a bit of Alien, with people trapped on a ship with a monster on it. The story is essentially the boat trip of Dracula from Transylvania to London, and we know how that ends, so they pretty much came up with their own take of what went on during the trip.  Some interesting changes to the story, some not so good.
Probably a 7 out of 10.

Yeah, like how come Dracula doesn't look like Bram Stoker's eyewitness account? Stoker's description was a lot like this:

Because Dracula could take many forms, and appeared in his human form, if he was trying to gain the trust of his prey/victim. Since his prey was trapped on board the ship, he didn't have to appear as the Count. In the original book, the people who encounter the wrecked Demeter, don't see a man who looks like Christopher Lee, but a large dog fleeing the ship. In the 1931 film, they don't find Dracula at all. Simply a crazed Renfield, since the characters of Harker and Renfield were merged, and they wanted to explain how Renfield got from Transylvania back to Britain.
What ever happened to my Transylvania Twist?

FYI folks, Demeter is now available on streaming channels.

The film didn't show in the area where I live and Dish wants 19.95 to rent it😟 I'm hoping to see it when the rental price comes down as my friend tells me it's pretty good!

Some of these rental prices are insane! Who would pay 20 bucks to rent it when you can probably buy it for $20-25?

I agree, the rental prices are outrageous.  Just wait a week or so and it will be $4.99 or $5.99.  Sometimes they even run a deal for $1.99.  If no one is renting the movie Amazon will drop the price.

I'd probably only pay that much for a movie I'm gonna buy anyway, so . . .  ;D
