Just wanted to wish Boris a Happy birthday. Thanks for the memories.

Dear old Boris...........one of the truly great.

Karloff.was.my.first."recognized".horror.star.when.I.was.a.kid--and.as.I.got.older,.I.was.a.tremendous.fan.of.
THRILLER.(this.was.on.tv.at.the.beginning.of.the.1960s,.young.UMA-ites!).and.loved.the.creepy.ones.and.
the.funny.ones.both--and.was.very.happy.that.there.were.a.handful.of.them.which.featured.Boris.himself.
..Around.1964,.I.was.in.L.A.and.the.people.we.were.visiting.took.us.to.Universal.Studios.to.do.the.
tour--while.riding.on.the.studio."tram".with.a.bunch.of.other.tourists.I.was.given.the.thrill.of.my.life.when.
the.tour.guide.called.for.the.driver.to.stop.the.tram.and.back.it.up....He.announced.that.he'd.been.told.
that.Karloff.himself.was.going.to.visit.the.studio.on.business.that.day,.and.if.we.would.look.behind.usthrough.the.fence,.back.up.the.block---we.could.see.the.Master.Monster.himself!...There.he.was--a.good.
block.away.from.us.but.recognizable--standing.on.the.sidewalk.next.to.a.couple.of.the.studio."suits"--his.
silver.hair.shining.like.anything.in.the.California.sun!...Only.that.one.glimpse.of.Boris,.but.it's..lasted.me.
a.lifetime,.fondly.remembered.to.this.day...The.rest.of.my.California.visit.was.good,.but.it's.a.blurred.memory.
all.these.years.later--the.sighting.of.Karloff.remains.clear,.though!

In.1969,.I.was.in.my.last.year.of.college--in.my.favorite.bar.on.Feb.2--a.day.I.remember.well,.too...That.was.
when.I.heard.a.couple.discussing.the.news.that.Karloff.had.died.in.London....I'll.never.forget.that.,.either.

My.collecting.began.in.earnest.in.the.early.1970s,.and.of.course.Karloff.memorabilia.became.a.part.of.that....Here's.a.part.of.my.main.collecting.room.which.I've.devoted.to.the.King:

On.the.edge.of.the.pedestal.that.holds.the.Karloff.bust...can.you.see.the.cane.hanging?..It.was.Boris'.own.
cane--I.got.it.from.someone.whose.birthday.today.is.also--Boris'.daughter,.Sara.

I've.had.the.pleasure.of.being.a.close.friend.of.Sara's.for.14.years.now,.and.look.forward.to.all.the.future.
holds.as.we.continue.to.do.conventions.and.keep.the.Karloff.legacy.alive.

Mine too, Robert.  To this day, everytime I hear his voice or see his face, I get chills and a warm heart at the same time.

Robert, Your Karloff room stuns me every time I see it. It is so rich with history and so beautiful to look at.
Happy Birthday, Ms. Karloff. And I am thankful for the great day that Boris Karloff came into this world, as well. What an amazingly talented gentleman, who gave the world so much joy through his art.

A.comment.of.Boris'.that.always.comes.to.mind.every.year.when.his.AND.daughter.Sara's.birthdays.roll.aroundis,."She.was.born.on.my.51st.birthday,.and.that.was.the.best--and.the.MOST.expensive--.birthday.gift.I.ever.got!"

And.just.for.the.record--the.legendary.story.that.he.was.informed.of.Sara's.birth.and.rushed.from.the.set.of.SON.OF.FRANKENSTEIN.to.the.hospital.in.full.makeup.wasn't.true...It.would.have.been.a.GREAT.story.for.the.newspapers,.but...just.didn't.happen...

A.few.more.pieces.from.my.Karloff.Kollection...this.latex.mask.came.from.Forry's.Ackermansion--it.measures.about.3".from.top.to.bottom!

And.also.from.the.Ackermansion...a.SON.figure.created.on.a.wire.armature,.about.18".tall...

A.Karloff-signed.program.from.the.stage.play.PETER.PAN.in.which.Boris.played.Captain.Hook:

From.my.Vincent.Price.collection,.the.letter.Vincent.wrote.to.Karloff's.widow,.Evie,.upon.finding.out.that.Boris.had.passed.away...

Just.a.favorite.photo.of.Boris--like.many.Brits,.he.loved.gardening...
