Surely you must have noticed that Facebook picture links have a half life measured in days.

I didn't! Why do they last days and then stop working?

Facebook doesn't allow links to pictures hosted on its site. Facebook monitors bandwidth usage to make sure this isn't being done. When whoever is responsible for the monitoring notices a link, it's zapped. This sometimes occurs within a day or two, but certainly after a few weeks.

Maybe monitoring is just a part of one person's job. I've noticed that hot links to other pictures get severed after a day or two, sometimes with a message about stealing bandwidth.
