I have seen all the originals a few times. When I was a kid ,they were awesome. Now with the modern ones done in the last several years,I cannot even bear to watch the originals anymore. IMO,the newer ones just totally destroy the originals aside from #1 with Charlton Heston. "Get you hands off me you damn dirty ape" Iconic line.

I have no problem watching old movies, with all their flaws. A big part of the fun I have watching "Plan Nine From Outer Space" is how cheesy the special effects were. I would honestly prefer watching an old episode of "Star Trek", then any of the more recent takes on that IP.

The more anatomical accuracy (to a point) of the CGI apes in the rebooted films hasn't affected my enjoyment of the original 5.  I still think the makeup is phenomenal and the acting exemplary from all of the leads, especially McDowell, in both roles (his TV Galen is also noteworthy).  The plots are just as much of their time as the recent ones are of now, although I think the original PotA had much more to say than all of the rest combined.  But for me, Conquest is the most hard hitting. If I were to rank them all (and I'm about to), I would put them in this order (best to worst):
1.   Planet of the Apes (1968)
2.   Conquest
3.   Rise
4.   Battle
5.   Dawn
6.   Escape
7.   War
8.   Beneath
9.   Planet of the Apes (2001)

I will second (or third?) the opinion expressed above: namely that, while I like very much the new POTA cycle, they do not in the least diminish my enjoyment of the originals, the ones that I grew up loving.

I love the new ones, minus Tim Burton's, but Conquest is still my favorite in the series.

The new trilogy is certainly very good and enjoyable, but they still don't hold a candle to the original five in my opinion.

I have the original movie series on BluRay and still enjoy watching them.  I like the new ones too, but for me they don't affect my enjoyment of the originals. 

Perhaps it matters if you saw the originals when they came out -- they were more than sci fi movies, they were social commentary as was La Planète des singes (the Pierre Boulle novel).
