Carla Laemmle: The lovely lady who spoke the first opening line in the '31 Dracula and danced in the 1925 Phantom of the Opera has passed away at 104. I was fortunate enough as a writer for Movie Collectors World to have covered her 100th Birthday party at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood in 2009. It was a gala event with big time Hollywood notables. It was and still is one of the most exciting things i have ever done in my lifetime. Carla was the last link to the Golden Era of film at Universal under the direction of her Uncle Carl who founded the studio. Carla will be missed by many that were fortunate enough to have known her. RIP

Very well said Freddie. A sad day for the Horror world for sure.
I was just watching her on the documentary, The Road To Dracula.

Will be raising a glass in her honor this evening.

Wonderful woman, I'm glad I got to meet her at Monsterpaloosa before she passed. There is an existing thread on this in the "Classic Horror Movies" section.
