Mike...In 3-D!

I'm wrapping up the original Addams Family series this weekend. I've really enjoyed it and while not every episode is amazing, I don't think any of them are clunkers. I recently discovered that the original cast (save for Grandmama Addams) got back together 10 years later for a color special. I'm hesitant because It's not easy recapturing the magic of things and I like ending things on a high note, but I'm also a bit of a completest. I've heard mixed opinions on it, so I figured I'd consult the experts.

Worth a watch just to see the cast in their original roles, but really rather uninspiring and forgettable.  The opening was fun and is the only part I really remember.  Oh, and you'll miss the original house/painting.

Sounds good. I was just mainly worried that it would tarnish my warm and fuzzy feelings of the series. Like when you're eating a bag of peanut M&M's and that last piece contains a funky tasting nut. Sure, the bag was delicious but the taste of that last nut lingers.

It would have helped if they could  have gotten the original writers.  I actually like the Mansion used in the special, which was an actual house and not a model or painting.  I found the whole idea of having two versions of Wednesday and Pugsley real weak.  Since they couldn't decide if they wanted Pugsley and Wednesday grown up, or kids, they decided to have both versions at the same time.  LAME!

Wait a few months then.   ;D

But they did get a MUNSTERS guy, HH!

Mike, it's a fun watch; not the best of such revivals, but far from the worst. The cast is fine, the feel is okay - the only thing that almost sinks it, is the GAWDAWFUL cheap '70s videotape look. The solid location and costumes look like they're in a poor VHS camcorder shoot.

And that was a big part of the problems.  The Addams family had writers which had written scripts for the Marx Brothers.  There's a lovable anarchy and thumbing the nose at the status quo which was a big part of the difference between The Addams Family, and the Munsters.  The people who did "The Munsters", had had a career in writing TV sitcoms, and if one looks at the Munsters, it is pretty much the humor found in many sitcoms of the era. The people who wrote the script just didn't seem to have a feel for the humor of the Addams Family.  Some prefer one over the other, but there is one thing you have to give the Munsters credit for, the sets, costumes, and photography were excellent.  The cheap video they shot this reunion on wasn't even as good as the filming on either series, and the whole thing seemed labored.
