aura of foreboding

I'm interested.  I never really cared for the movies, but I've enjoyed Bates enough and Hannibal immensely.  Perhaps this one will be another winner.

Maybe it was studio economics, but I remeber that the shows title offended some religous groups, because they thought the series was based on the Motion picture franchise of the same name.

While this is the last season for the show it was still going strong in the ratings, but when it was moved to an 8 O'clock time slot it was a prime target for religious groups.  While they could have fought to keep this on the air, Paramount chose not to fight this battle and cancel the show with not even the full season being aired.
Is this the real reason it was cancelled, or did Paramount cancel it for economics?  I'll let other's who are more knowlegable debate this.

It was the economics. With "War of the Worlds: The Series" shooting in the same studio, it was economical to do both series there. Once WOTW:TS was cancelled, they simply didn't have the budget. They also didn't have the 2-hour time block to sell, anymore. It's my understanding they tried to get something else into development in time, but they just couldn't do it.

Again, maybe it was studio economics, but what I read at the time was how religous groups were opposed to the series on the title alone was what got the series cancelled.  That there is a different reason may be valid, but honestly, this is the first I've ever heard of economics being the reason.  I decided to do an internet search for the reason that the show was cancelled, and all I could find was the one about religous groups.  If you could provide any links about the show bering cancelled for economic reasons, I would be very interested.

I'm not sure if there are any online links to the article I read it in. It was shortly after the cancellation. But, I'll see if I can dig anything up. I know I have a copy of the actual magazine, but I haven't unpacked it from my move yet.

Okay, if I'm remembering correctly from 22 years ago, this is where you'll find the article:
