UMA member John Mitchell is a sergeant in the National Guard, stationed in Kosovo.   He was quoted recently in an article for the American Forces Press Service.  Here is a link to the article:

Will keep fellow member Sgt.Mitchell in my thoughts as he works to keep peace over there.  Riot control can be dangerous work, and I hope John returns home safely to family and friends. Thanks John Mitchell, and good luck. ---Josie

Prayers from this quarter, too.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the support.  We really do appreciate the fact that we aren't forgotten by the folks at home.  We feel we are making a difference in places around the world and value the thoughts and prayers from all of you.  Thanks to Elizabeth for the nice letters.  Thanks especially to those who sent goodies for the kids.  (Raymond, your package of squeezably scary goodness arrived on Tue 13 Oct 08...)

One of my last contacts with Meek was to thank her for the package of Beanie Babies, etc. she sent and she told me she was in the process of getting another together.  Due to a hectic schedule, I only recently learned of her passing.  I was shocked and saddened, as I'm sure you all were, when I heard the news.  It's completely in keeping with her character and soul that she was generously giving to others right up to the end.  I will always remember her for her humor and kindness.  Now the children of Kosovo will know of her too.

I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of you at the next Wonderfest/MonsterBash/Whatever as soon as I can.  Things here are going pretty well.  I should be home in March09.  Halloween is fast approaching and we have a big event planned for the kids of the city I work in.  I'll be plugging classic Universal Monsters fo' sho'...  That and "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown".

Thanks again for all the kind words and I'll see ya later!

Just wanted to add that I respect and admire your service to our country in this trying time. You guys and gals are doing a wonderful job ensuring that I can sit in my home worry free and discuss monsters with my friends. Sometimes we forget the little things. I don't. Thank you again for all you do.

Fear SGT. Mitchell, It makes me proud to know one of our UMA family is doing such great things.  Keep up the great job, especially for the kids, as well as for the world. Return to us safely. I will keep you in my prayers.  THANK YOU JOHN MITCHELL. ---Bill Sharp
