Kirby almost always had a way of going against the grain ;)
This is one of the great series in TV history, IMO.

Gotta agree on Combat. Thanks to MeTV I'm catching up on this great show!

Paladin

The problem that I am having with MeTV is that they are hacking the shows up to free commercial space.

I was upset about Vic Morrow and the two children being killed on the set of 'The Twilight Zone' movie ... This is a good read about the trial ~

Outrageous Conduct: Art, Ego, and the Twilight Zone Case by Stephen Farber, Marc Green

I was also sadden to discover a few days ago that Rick Jason killed himself .. the following is from Wikipedia ~ Jason died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound one week after the Combat! reunion on October 16, 2000 in Moorpark, California.

Rick shot himself through the head after receiving bad news from his doctor. He was a very bright guy and died with the only dignity he knew rather than lie in a hospital and just "wait".

Rick's memoirs can be read here:

The incident involving Vic Morrow was horrendous and he "knew" it was coming. The children who were with him were illegal minors whose parents were working for a small stipend. They were also working for the studio where John Landis was filming.
The entire action set was laden with safety violations, from pyrotechnics right over to the equipment. The whole thing was a disaster waiting to happen.
Vic even called Rick a few days before and expressed concerns about the safety (or lack thereof) while making TZ: the Movie.

I've never read this. I'll look for it on either Amazon or Kindle.

This entire thing involving Vic Morrow's death was so tragic and not necessary to say the least. To save a few bucks on safety, Landis nickle- and- dimed everything involved involving the Vietnam scene. But I also blame the people who were in charge on inspections at the studio. It sounds like no one bothered to inspect the equipment that was being used on the set.

It's a good book, also goes into the trial and how the L.A. prosecutor Lea D'Agostino  blew the case...

I don't remember how many people testified that John Landis kept yelling "lower, Lower, LOWER until the helicopter was only 24 feet above Vic Morrow and the children and when Landis was on the stand he denied that he ever said it ..  :( >:(

I hate John Landis!

D'Agostino and the state of California (to say the very least) dropped the ball here- big time.

I want to read this book.
