Not sure why they are bothering with a dvd release of this one?!  The Special Edition, surprisingly released from MGM no less, from 2003 is perfect!  Not only containing a great looking transfer but loads of extras and you can still pick it up for around $12.  In the past they (Shout Factory) have stated that if a film already has a worthwhile dvd they wouldn't release another and that was on some OOP titles!

I've got that one, so I'll probably get a title I don't have, instead.

Maybe they've got some killer new extra features? And, I guess MGM doesn't want to bother with the Blu-Ray themselves.

I dunno as I said MGM's disc was pretty loaded~

Special Features

Fullscreen and Widescreen versions of the film
Audio Commentary by Director Joe Dante and actors Dee Wallace Stone, Christopher Stone, Robert Picardo
    Dick Miller: Thespian Featurette
Unleashing The Beast: Making The Howling Featurette
Making A Monster Movie: Inside The Howling Featurette
    Deleted Scenes
    Outtakes
    Theatrical Trailers
    Publicity Campaign Photos
    Production Photos

Not sure what more they could offer special feature wise, though I've read there were a few other items from a previous laserdisc!  And one deleted scene that was a little longer on the previous laserdisc release!  Don't think most folks would double dip over that.

I understand the Blu-ray version but I'm specifically talking about a dvd version!  Tons of folks commented wanting a Scream Factory-Countess Dracula dvd and Shout said that MGM's (OOP) dvd looked great already so no Scream dvd for that title!

Isn't "Countless Dracula" going to be a DVD/BR combo from Synapse?

Darn, I was hoping Synapse would get "The Vampire Lovers" and release a DVD/BR combo. Still hoping they get "Lust for a Vampire," too.

I just watched this again last week.  I also re-watched it with the commentary and most of the special features.

You gotta love John Carradine's sweetly wicked smile!
