Would they DVD R from a VHS tape?

Any bootlegger out there who isn't using a copy of the VHS to make their DVDs needs a whoppin'!

Wouldn't any copy besides and official VHS be a bootleg technically?  Just wondering.  The video store where I got mine gets them imported so wondering how they are getting past the copyright laws.

I would really like to see Hammer's Legend of the Werewolf released to DVD.  My VHS copy is terrible.  I tried to watch it before I left on deployment and I could hardly get through it, yet it is a very good film.  Tragic.

Any DVD of TEENAGE WEREWOLF is a bootleg, since the c. owner hasn't sold the DVD rights to anybody, yet. I was just saying, that if a bootlegger isn't using the best source (an unused copy of the VHS), I wouldn't buy it. It's not that hard to get sealed VHS copies of those 6 AIP titles for well under $100.

After getting used to watching High Def very clear DVD's do you find it difficult to watch the old VHS format?  Some of the ones I have seem ok but others are yeck.  Very blurry or have problems.  We are used to watching those on smaller screens too.  I now have a 65 inch and next time I am home buying a 70 inch.  Watching those on such large screens show all the flaws and if they are blurry then sheesh, hurts my eyes.  Anything though on DVD at least from a decent transfer is great.  Watching the Munsters on my large screen is awesome, like watching them in a theater.  Gotta luv it.

Sideways tangent: I love watching The Invaders DVD sets on my 42" plasma.  ;D
Re: VHS, I've been clearing out my storage area. Threw out a ton of old VHS off-the-air tapes. Tried to peruse most of them before jettisoning. The most interesting thing was watching bad local commercials from the late 70s.

Now they sell whole DVD's devoted to old commercials.  We call them classics.  I bought one such DVD, got a bargain at five bucks however, as entertaining as I thought it might be the quality of some of the transfers was terrible and there were so many that it was hard to find the "good" ones.  What I really enjoy is the old Drive In advertisements for the consession stands.  You know, the ones where hot dogs and pizza were nutricious wholesome snacks.

As long as I consider it watchable (your mileage may vary), I don't have a problem watching VHS. I'd rather watch a DVD, for various reasons, though.

Wolfman:  LEGEND OF THE WEREWOLF is NOT a Hammer film although many people who also worked for Hammer were involved from the scriptwriter to the director and Peter Cushing had a good sized role.  It's a Tyburn Film production.  I don't know who owns the rights to the film nowadays.  Tyburn hasn't produced anything since the late 1980's.

I've got three different copies of IWATW on dvd. But the best one I found is the LBX/1:85.1 copy I got a while back.

Sadly, this film, along with several other AIP classics, is being held hostage by Nicholson's widow. Infuriating how one spiteful old woman can keep so many people from enjoying some of their favorite films.
