Here is a funny little item that recently sold on e-Bay.  Does anyone here know what the heck it is?

It looks like something I should recognize, but I just can't bring it to mind.

My guess is it held a glass lab flask (with a side neck), and was designed to either retain or conduct heat. Copper is a very "even" conductor of heat.

Easy, Its obviously a bong some kid made in shop class in the late 1800's. Jeesh!
