Opinions on Jerry Only's stewardship of the Misfits are greatly divided, some fans disowning everything after Glenn Danzig left the remaining members for a different direction and others defending Jerry's reboot of the Gothic punk outfit's modern Halloween theatricality. I'm somewhere in the middle. While I enjoyed the slick first couple of albums in the new Misfits era, I've often raised an eyebrow at some of Jerry's lead vocals after losing the unique vocals of Michale Graves. I will say that Jerry's vocals have improved greatly over time, but I still think he lacks the range of a natural lead vocalist.

In any case, "The Devil's Rain" boosts some impressive credits on the production end, from ex-Ramones producer Ed Stasium to Marvel Zombies artist, Arthur Suydam's, amazing disc cover artwork. With song titles like "Dark Shadows," "Curse of the Mummy's Hand" and "Ghost of Frankenstein," it's going to be hard not to interest classic monster fans who like punk and metal hybrid music. Along with Alice Cooper's "Welcome 2 My Nightmare" due out on Sept. 13, this looks like it's going to be a great Halloween for music fans with a thirst for some old school horror rock.

The jury is still out for me on this new album!  I dug the reformed 'fits of the mid 90's, their albums couldn't hold a candle to the original stuff for me but nonetheless I enjoy listening to them.  Once the band became a traveling oldies band though I lost interest quick.  I went to a few of the 25th anniversary shows with the hopes at one time that all issues with Chud, Doyle, Mike and Jerry would be resolved but alas that was/is not to be.  Project 1950 was a mixed bag and I'd rather listen to Me First and the Gimme Gimmes redo classics in punk style than hear Jerry try to belt them out.

This album has been a long time coming so I'm hoping for the best!  I know that Jerry is quite the perfectionist and The Misfits constant touring as probably had alot to do with the delay in getting this thing out.  I'd expect though that if they find some success in this new release it won't be such a long wait for the next one!

Here is the cover of the album which only shows up as the dreaded "x" in your post!?!

The album cover has a very classic late 80's/early 90's metal vibe to it which has seemed to be more Jerry's style.

I've jumped on all previous Misfits releases buying them without hearing them first but with this one I'm definitely going to check it out before I buy!

Famous Monsters was the only CD I every really enjoyed by The Misfits. I can not stand Danzig. He is an egotistical dimwit with NO SINGING TALLENT! Michael Graves was the best singer for that band. This one looks really cool though. With titles like Ghost of Frankenstein, I'll have to check it out.
Listen to them. Children of the Night. What music they make!

Whether egotistical or a dimwit (one of which is definitely not true) you can't say the man has "no singing talent"?!?  It may not be your cup of tea but the man definitely has chops both vocally and muttonly!

Did someone just say Evil Elvis has no singing talent? I don't even know how to respond to that.

I can accept any and all evolutions of The Misfits, because I find them to be pleasing to my senses  :)  I started liking Project 1950 a few years ago, after not really digging it for the first few listens. But I can say that I look forward to this CD (even though I usually buy it from Itunes, I call it a CD).
