While looking through a folder I have on Frankenstein stills I came across this newspaper advertisement for the release of Frankenstein in Australia in 1932.I had totally forgotten I had this. The date is on the back of the clipping.Wonder if anyone claimed the 1000 pounds cash?Just thought I'd post this as a bit of historical interest.

Suitable for adults only!

Wow, what hype! But I know it did shock the world upon it's arrival.

Great ad indeed!

I'm not sure that was hype.  In Great Britain, Horror films were adults only till I think the 1960's.  The same was probably true about Australia in the 1930's.
What ever happened to my Transylvania Twist?

My grandfather was born in 1919. He saw Frankenstein in it's first release when he was 12 or so. He was walking home from the theater that night, down the railroad tracks. A man stepped out of the shadows and asked him for a light, but he never responded. He ran the remaining several miles home! He often told this story, and I believe him!!!

^Great story, Chris.  Thanks for that!

I like that the ad mentions the life insurance policy.  William Castle recycled several tricks from the old showmen.
