Christmas Movies Bring Out The "Frailness" In Me...

Well, I got choked up during IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER, MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET and a couple of others this year.  Not too many movies do this to me, and it's usually just because of one scene.  Like in the non-Christmas movie WIZARD OF OZ, when the Tin Man says the thing about his heart breaking, I get kinda -  excuse me a minute...

Okay, anyway, I should be fine till the end of the year for now.

I do not know why I just admitted this.

And when they all finally escape at the end of Chicken Run

Don't get me started on the end of Apollo 13.

Seriously, there are movies that resonate with each of us on a personal level.  Sometimes it is hard to predict which ones.  I got all teary eyed at the end of Field of Dreams  But Wizard of OZ leaves me cold.

Christmas wise, it is always that big scene in White Christmas where all the veterans come to honor their retired general, that has an effect on me.

Nothing frail about it, UP and gang--it's heart, that's all.  And I'm sure glad to know that UMA'ers have heart!  (Cue for someone to make the old Hitchcock joke about having the heart of an innocent youth...!)  Seriously, last night just as Christmas came in, the "home in Indiana" scene in REMEMBER THE NIGHT (1940) got to me--and today at noon, the '38 CHRISTMAS CAROL made me get out the "hankerchief".  It'd be a rough old world indeed if we didn't have hearts--and show it, at least once a year!  Good on you, UP & Fester & Charp!

Me too...........the end of "It's A Wonderful Life", anything with Peanuts (reminds me of being a little kid), the end of any "A Christmas Carol" ever made, etc etc.

Hey Scatter, I'm with you on the Christmas Carol variations......they all work for me! Especially the way Scrooge comes up on the Cachets and his nephew at the end.......which Christmas Carol is it that Bob Cachet hides in his own  pantry and thinks Scrooge is seriously dangerous? We saw Disney's Christmas Carol this year and I must say it was a very cool version. I can see it being a family tradition in the following years to come.

I also saw it for the first time this year, Baron! I really enjoyed it as well     And it motivated me to order Mickey's Christmas Carol on dvd so that I could watch both of them this year. For some reason, I was A Christmas Carol- crazy this year!  It's such a brilliant story and so perfect for every age.

I hear you chrap! The story works from this new one, to the '51 version to Scrooged.

I loved the visual feast this was, but still it didn't just rely on the art to be able to tell the story. Carrey and Oldman did amazing jobs with their voices.

I think it's nice to hear that you males cry at movies.  I think men need to show their true feelings.  Don't hold it inside.  You are all 100% normal!  Not frail.
