It's barely 200 pages long, not including bibliography and index.
Yet this first edition hardback from 2017 manages to cover quite
a lot of ground, with deep dives into nearly every Universal
horror/monster movie from Dracula '31 through The Creature
Walks Among Us
. It claims that the horror cliche of a couple
necking in a car to be distracted by a passing shadow originated
with 1942's The Mummy's Tomb. I detected several errors in the
text, mostly misquotes of dialog and misspellings. 'None too egregious
but how the heck do you misspell "Universal" over a dozen times?

The epilogue continues on from the mid '50s with the rise of
"Shock Theatre" and its horror hosts, plus the magazines and
merchandise it generated.

Author Neibaur is credited with several earlier titles about
silent era comedy, also a subject of interest to me. I'll have
to see if our local cinema bookstore carries any.
