Geez, I thought he passed years ago! I grew up with Sing A Long with Mitch, albeit primarily during the Christmas season. I've at least one vinyl, and a CD. Heaven has a new member of the Choir!

Sing Along With Mitch was a must-watch show in our house when I was a kid.  Three generations of my family together enjoyed watching him and singing along!

And yes, I sadly admit I thought he was long since gone!  I'm glad to see that he enjoyed life up to the final days.

Oh no- I just got around to reading this......so sad.  I also grew up with his show. My Dad had vinyls and I still remember so many of the songs. Some of them were sweet and some of them were manly songs- but I still have the lyrics in my head. Remember in the album- there were lyric sheets?  Brilliant  :)  I guess I should be so lucky to live to be 99. But I really will miss him and I guess I should call my Dad to walk down memory lane.  :)  I keep thinking about all the Americana type songs like "The Band Played On" and  "Bicycle built for two", ooh and  "Drink, Drink, Drink". I need to see if I can find this stuff on Itunes.

Wow I can remember listining to Mitch on vinyl with my mom around Christmas time.

Thanks for the memories. Head home Mitch.

I too thought he was gone like 20 years ago. I was "forced" to watch this as well as Lawrence Welk when small. HATED it. Still respect for what he tried to do getting families together which seems is just not happening in the high tech age.  99 years and "ok" til the end. Wow!

Not to be too hard on the recently passed... but, I worked in the record store business about 17 years. The lore was that Mitch not only passed on Elvis Presley at CBS, stating he was a fad who would be gone in a year, but also many others. CBS was the last of the major labels to really have rock and roll, hardly anyone before the signed Paul Revere and the Raiders. Mitch produced Marty Robbins singles that took him out of the country scene and gave him a pair of squeaky clean pop records. On the other hand, the Johnny Ray music at CBS is clearly proto-rock and probably an influence on people like Elvis, Buddy Holly and Phil Spector. I always thought the song "Loving You lots and Lots" in the Tom Hanks movie "That Thing You Do" was a great nod to the type of music Mitch preferred over R & R. Who knows, now that rock n roll is fading, maybe Mitch was a little right.  ::)

My music is for Phoenix. Only she can sing it. Anyone else who tries, dies.

He was a true classic, a product of a more innocent time, or a time when I was more innocent anyway.

I used to watch his show when I was a kid in Texas. My dad had it on every week, never missed it. I also didn't realize he was still alive. Thought he passed on many years ago. I never heard much about him for such a long time. RIP Mitch Miller

Wow!  Friday nights with Mitch.  That was so long ago.  I don't ever remember hearing his name after his show left the air.  I thought he'd died way back then.

I find it interesting that everyone keeps remembering that their Dads would be watching Mitch.  I can't help but wonder if our Dads truly enjoyed singing and this was one of the few places that they could belt out a tune without people questioning their behavior.... I walk around "singing" without being able to carry a tune or use actual notes, but my family has learned to accept that I'm not quite right. But the sixties was a rough time to be a Dad, so Sing Along With Mitch might have been therapeutic. Who knows how my Dad would act right now if he didn't have that show to help him express himself by singing along to that bouncing ball    :)

I have whistled "Bridge Over the River Kawai" many times.  Godspeed, Mitch.
