Title: Aurora Mummy...comic advertisement style!
Post by: StyreneDude on November 21, 2020, 05:49:09 PM
This has been a long time in the works.

I really wanted to capture the look of those classic Aurora four color comic advertisements.

Aurora monsters were always neon green, with saturated blues and purples, bright reds, etc.
Very happy with how this turned out. There will be more!

Do you have the ad, for comparison?

Really like what you’ve done here! I’d really like to see other Aurora kits done in this  style. I hope you’ll post some more.

Hmmmm. StyreneDude's build actually doesn't resemble any of the ads I remember from the back covers of the DC comic mags that hit newsstands on these dates respectively:

October 1963

Nor this one from the back cover of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine:

What his build resembles to a certain extent is James Bama's box art:

Here's a picture of the box (mine) plus James Bama's original artwork for comparison's sake:

Do you EVER have anything positive to say that's not a thinly veiled insult or criticism about any of my posts? I'm so tired of your insufferable comments. Stay out of my threads from now on. Your opinion of my work is not wanted nor welcome.

Yes. Many times. Here are some of those places:

Incidentally, did you not notice that I gave your post a Like within a few hours? I've given dozens of your posts Likes over the years. And speaking of ever, have you ever given me even one Like in return?

I'm so tired of your insufferable comments. Stay out of my threads from now on. Your opinion of my work is not wanted nor welcome.

Moreover I was actually responding to the direct question that Mike Scott posted on 21 November 2020 at 06:41:31 PM. I was interested in your reply. But we didn't get one. So finally after more than five days I responded to Mike's enquiry with my own thoughts on 26 November 2020 at 8:43:59. My opinion that your build-up resembled James Bama's fabulous box art much more than it did any of the Aurora ads I remember would hardly have been termed "insulting" by most arm's length observers. Being mentioned in the same breath as James Bama would generally be seen as a high compliment.

Interesting too that when I first noticed one of your posts I thought that your StyreneDude posting handle was very cool because it mirrored my own preference for old-fashioned styrene plastic kits as opposed to the resin or vinyl kits being issued by many companies these days. I thought we were kindred spirits in that regard.

I guess I was wrong though, very wrong. What it really amounts to is that you don't like me. Fine then. I'm happy to make the feeling mutual since I don't like people who don't like me.

Very cool model!  I don't remember those colors being on The Mummy, more so on Frankenstein's Monster, but I get the look you were going for.  The green, purple, and blue work so well together...definitely have to try one like this on my model kits.  For some reason The Mummy looks infinitely more frightening in those colors.  Great job...hope we get to see more.
