Title: Show us your new kit scores!
Post by: Dr Wolfenstein on January 05, 2016, 09:12:03 PM
I thought it would be cool to see what kits forum members have bought lately and also what new kits are available.

I picked these up from ebay. One day I'll make my Dr Deadly diorama. >:D

I recently acquired Mike Hill's 1/3 Curse of the Werewolf bust, I haven't had chance to take pics of mine, but the finished kit looks like this:

(http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii239/rogerbee/144256092_zpscnmxau3n.jpg) (http://s265.photobucket.com/user/rogerbee/media/144256092_zpscnmxau3n.jpg.html)

I'll endeavour to get mine looking that good!

CHEERS!

EDIT:

Here's mine, he came ready primed:

I just love the detail on this. You can so tell this is one of Mike's favourite creatures.

In the past month ...

J. Lloyd 2005 reissues of five Hawk Weird-Ohs, Drag Hag, Endsville Eddie, Freddy Flameout, Leaky Boat Louie, and Wade A. Minut, $8.99 each with free shipping.

(http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/qsIAAOSwyQtV5bMq/s-l400.jpg) (http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/fGIAAOSwLVZV5bCP/s-l400.jpg) (http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/jZIAAOSwwE5WZdso/s-l400.jpg) (http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/s0YAAOSw8-tWVSQR/s-l400.jpg) (http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/KfEAAOSwuWVWFD2B/s-l400.jpg)

Testors 1999 Weird-Ohs Davey (TV version), $6.95 plus shipping.

Monarch 2014 Gorgo (blue box), $29.50 plus shipping.

Revell 2012 reissue of Renwal 1/32 Teracruzer with Mace Missile, $29.90 with free shipping.

I was excited to get the Teracruzer, not only because it was less than half price (new, sealed), and fits in with my other retro space and atomic subject models (mostly from the 1950s), but the real thing (a total of 189 transporter-launcher units) was built by FWD Corp., located just 48 miles east of me in the little town of Clintonville, Wisconsin.

My blue box Gorgo has arrived, molded in a Lemon Grass color (greenish yellow).

It's missing the four clock faces, parts 49-A, 49-B, 49-C, and 49-D. Anyone have these to sell or trade (any color)? Or know of a source now that Monarch has shut its doors?

Wow... That's  very odd as these(Yellow version)  were released in  a  very  small  quantity  as a  quality control measure  after the missing parts issue had arisen...   I found out what this color is all about ! Remember when Scott had all that trouble with the Gorgos missing Parts ? He put together a small final batch of quality controlled regular grazs' Gorgos.
Scotts  words : All new plastic color( THIS COLOR!) (looks great unpainted). And loads more gram weight with parts on the sprues to ensure no missing pieces and to minimize the rattle and shake.... These arrived when the Glow Ghost and Glow Gorgos' did...Very small quantity were ever made in this Yellow color.
Check again...You can  still  get in touch with Scott here : monarchmodels(*at*)outlook.com

Hmmm. If the Yellow Gorgo is the last run of the non-glow kits, and it's a rare color (perhaps the rarest color?), then I wonder whether I should leave it alone as an unbuilt collectible, or build it unpainted (if I can get matching clock faces), or exchange it with a collector who has a more common color to trade (so I can both build and paint that one)? Hmmm. (Note in the photo that a few of the smaller parts are off the sprues, and a few of the larger parts are barely hanging on, despite Monarch's good intention.)

UPDATE. I just heard back from Monarch that they're sending a replacement sprue with the four clock face parts, in the same color. Amazing! So it looks like I'll be building this Gorgo unpainted, and picking up a different one to paint. Thanks very much, Mcdee, for the contact information.

It's Jeff Yagher's 1/2 scale Frankenstein bust. I got him from Monsters In Motion. The shipping was crippling, but, I decided he was worth it. He was also at Blackhearted, but, they didn't do UK shipping.

I can't wait to get for him to get here!

I got an email from Monsters in Motion saying that it was on back order. It said expected by 01/30/16, I'm hoping this means that they'll get more in then and will dispatch mine when they arrive. This is a once in a lifetime deal for me and I don't know where else I could get one  if I can't get it from them.

I have had things go  on back order with other sellers before and it actually meant that they couldn't get stock and they eventually refunded me

Hope that doesn't happen

EDIT:

It's all good, I emailed them and they replied saying that it will ship, they're busy right now. Yay!

  Hi Rogerbee,
For some reason the Blackheart checkout system doesn't work for foreign orders. But if you send them an email they will let you know the postage cost and you can pay by Paypal.I'm from Australia and ordered a kit from them a few years ago.

Finally I have my Yagher Frankenstein bust! It was sent out on the 30 Jan from Earthbound and came into the UK this week. I got hit with a customs charge, so, as I was in the city where the depot was yesterday, I decided to see what I could do. I paid the fee and they then handed me the bust! It was a chore lugging it round the city (My arms still feel funny!) and onto the bus, but, I have him and he's now mine, ALL MINE!

Here's a pic:

Yes. There's a factory-bagged Surf Fink (no box) available on eBay for $20.00 + shipping. So I could have got the kit cheaper. But I wanted the box, which features one of four paintings Roth did for the 1990 reissues. It's impressive that Revell commissioned new art from Roth back then.

Impressive indeed! I just wish that Revell had reissued the Drag Nut, Mr. Gasser, Mother's Worry, Brother Rat Fink, Angel Fink, Scuz-Fink and Super Fink kits with new artwork as well.

At least they reissued four Roth monsters in one year! Now it's more like one Roth monster every four years. The only thing I have to look forward to in 2016 is Lindberg's re-release of the 1965 Mad Maestro in April.

Which may be followed by this never-released companion kit that Round 2 found in the Lindberg tooling vault.

Much better than the Loonys and Repulsives.

I can't imagine spending hundreds on an original issue Scuz Fink. But then, I'm not a collector, and the 2004 reissue is pricey enough for me. It usually sells for $50.00, according to the "completed listings" on eBay. Though some sellers are currently asking $75.00 to $150.00. Got mine for $45.00.  :)

This just came in the mail today.
I remember reading Bil Bruegman's Aurora guide and being slack-jaw amazed that there was an Aurora model kit named "The Vampire" that I had never seen, nor even heard of! I imagined it being a dramatic representation of a vampire that would compliment the Universal monster line. When I finally did see it I was a little disappointed, but the character, detail and box art kept growing on me. I'm happy to say it is now part of my collection, and it may well be the rarest Aurora I own.

When I bought it I was sure I was going to strip it down and repaint it. Once I saw it in person I have to admit that the paint is better thanI thought it would be. We'll see...

Just moments ago, I scored a Horizon Creature from the Black Lagoon from eBay. The price was reduced as the kit wasn't MIB (It was complete but opened.) so I had to snag him. I negotiated shipping with the seller, who was in Canada, and we struck a deal. As I'm going to build the kit and wanted to save on shipping, I decided not to get the box. You may scream, but, it would only have added bulk to the package and be hanging around like dead wood after I'd built him. Space and money are short for me so I have to do what I can with what I've got.

The seller said the kit is well packaged and should arrive intact, so, I'll have a great kit at a fraction of what an MIB one would have been. He looks like this right now:

I can't wait to receive him. Mind you, I have the Frankenstein bust to work on right now so it'll be a little while before I start him.

It's great to be back in this hobby again

Still my #1 figure of the Creature to this day. I sent mine off to Mike Falcigno a few years ago, and he absolutely killed it (in a good way of course). I wouldn't trade mine for the world.

Still my #1 figure of the Creature to this day. I sent mine off to Mike Falcigno a few years ago, and he absolutely killed it (in a good way of course). I wouldn't trade mine for the world.

JP

Mine will be going nowhere after I finish him. I do find it tricky sometimes painting colour onto something from a black and white movie. It does give you some room for artistic license, but, you still want it to look right. I'm sure I'll work something out.

Rogerbee; if you Google search you should come up with a number of color images from "Creature From the Black Lagoon" . There is a very famous publicity still (the one with the bright red "lipstick") and some behind the scenes stuff from Life Magazine. Bear in mind the underwater suit was colored/highlighted differently because of the VASTLY different lighting, not to mention the fact there were NO EYES in the mask. Please post as you paint!

There are some amazing artists out there if you don't want to do it yourself. I'm glad I had Mike paint this up for me. I never could have done this justice anywhere near the level he did. It's worth it in the end, since you'll be staring at it for years to come.

Yeah, I've seen the lipstick pics. Julia Adams said that the costume wasn't as bright as that. There are some pics of the masks that Bob Burns has too. The greens still look a bit odd there, though I doubt they were that bothered when it was all shot in black and white. I've seen interpretations of the Horizon kit that I quite like and will come up with something that I feel does him justice.

I believe I have pics of the one Mike did and I will use them for reference. I'll put my own take on him, but I hope that I'll do him justice myself. I've found paint commissioning to be a pricey business, often as much as, if not more than, the cost of the kit itself.

I remember reading Bil Bruegman's Aurora guide and being slack-jaw amazed that there was an Aurora model kit named "The Vampire" that I had never seen, nor even heard of!

She's charming! Pity she's so rarely seen though.

My Horizon Creature arrived earlier. I got hit with a customs fee, the amount on the slip was 67.81, which I begrudgingly paid. However, I got a call this morning to say that the fee was actually $67.81! Yeah, big difference! The box he came in was no bigger than you'd put a 1/4 scale bust in. That and the fact that it was from Canada should have been enough for someone to realise first off what the fee should have been! Still, they've refunded the overcharge and I now own the kit, so all's welll that ends well.

He's in superb nick having never been taken out of his bag for over 20 years. It's still a superb kit and one I'm really looking forward to working on. Here's some pics:

... it was from Canada should have been enough for someone to realise first off what the fee should have been!

Since there's free trade between the United States and Canada the only customs fee that could be levied is any local sales taxes.

I got hit with a customs fee, the amount on the slip was 67.81, which I begrudgingly paid. However, I got a call this morning to say that the fee was actually $67.81!

Was the package sent by United Parcel Services? Was the bulk of the fee a custom brokerage fee for just collecting your state's sales tax?

 ???

It was Canada Post as far as I know, the fee is UK VAT I think, they also charge an 8 handling fee.

They used to let stuff slide, but, having been hit twice now, I think they're tightening up on it now. So, if you're in the UK and ordering from the US or Canada, be warned!

I seem to be going through mixed fortunes when it comes to kit scores. I get the good bit when I find and buy the kit, and then there's a sting in the tale. Earlier, I scored this:

(http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii239/rogerbee/My%20box_zpsruhh3zvh.jpg) (http://s265.photobucket.com/user/rogerbee/media/My%20box_zpsruhh3zvh.jpg.html)

It's the Horizon Bat Dracula, a kit I've always wanted. As per usual, proper MIB ones are triple figures, however, this one was just under 60 posted. What's the sting!? Well, it may be in the UK this time, but, it's Easter. The kit will be sent via second class post, so, as Good Friday and Easter Monday are classed as public holidays, there are no postal deliveries on those days. This means that it's going to be a week at least before I get the kit. Oh what fun! No hidden fees this time though...

I know,  I should just count myself lucky that I'm getting these cool kits at all, LOL!

Well, wonders never cease, the kit arrived earlier today! That floored me, I didn't think I'd get it till next week. I'm well happy! This is another kit where the bag was unopened so it was obvious that it was going to be complete, and here he is:

Loving the detail, especially seeing as it's over 20 years old.

I'll have a ball painting that!

Those wedges fit into the bottoms of the feet which enable him to stand up. If anyone has him, did you fill the legs and in which bits?

I always figured this is one of the kits whose mold was destroyed in the infamous train wreck...or maybe scrapped for some reason?

Arrrgh! When in doubt, blame it on an infamous train wreck. It's better than blaming the family dog.
