Title: Identify you avatar.
Post by: Bogey on September 02, 2008, 09:48:35 PM
Some are obvious, some I have never seen before.  However, on the obvious ones, there may be a story behind the specific one you picked.  :)

My avatar is Coffin Joe because I'm a crazy Coffin Joe fan.  The subtitle "I don't like dramas" is not something I added.  That is the actual subtitle accompanying that shot in the movie.  That's why I picked that particular image.  I don't like dramas.

My avatar is a shot of me w/ my childhood hero [taken last summer at my house] and king of all horror hosts, Zacherley. I'm wearing my repro Shock Monster mask and a fez... Lots of symbolism going on here, since my fondest monster memory from my youth was when i was about 6 or 7 and my best friend Doug slept over my house one Saturday night during 1963. We just finished watching Zacherley host Chiller Theater on WPIX NY's CH 11, [Attack of the 50 Foot Woman] went back to my room and attempted to read the classic Famous Monsters issue # 7 featuring a Zacherley cover/pictorial under the blankets, with a flashlight. [we use to make up our own captions for the photos, since we couldn't read all that well and then laugh WAY harder than any rational person ever should] I say "attempted "because we no sooner had begun reading when my brother , who was about 16 at the time, suddenly sprung out of my closet wearing his newly acquired [from Famous Monster's, Captain Company mail order dept.] Shock Monster mask. Doug shined the flashlight [imagine what this looked like in a completely darkened room] up into the hideous looking face leering down at us, he then picked up the army cot that he was to sleep on over his head and flung it straight at my brother's face, like a surfboard! Next thing i saw were my bro's feet up in the air. Needless to say, my mom soon intervened and made all the threats to our well being necessary to successfully diffuse a potentially hazardous situation.
I eventually met Zach in 1988 [its a long story] and have since recorded 2 CD's with him [Dead Man's Ball and the Rondo winning, {GO FIGURE!} Interment For Two] Even weirder is that Zach is slated to host the movie, "Tarantula" on a Chiller Theater TV special on Ch 11 this Halloween! Like Joe Walsh said ,Life's been good to me so far...please feel free to pull miy finger anytime. You won't be disappointed.

I love the Creature!

Plus this one reminds me of when I first saw Revenge of the Creature. It was on tv and they aired it in 3D. I remember begging my mom to stop at the Tinee Giant grocery store so I could get a couple of pairs of the glasses. I think I had to buy a pack of gum or something in order to get them. This was the first Creature movie I had ever seen. I knew who the creature was but had not seen the original yet. Lots of good memories!

My Avatar is a 1/3 scale resin bust of Glen Strange as the Frankenstein Monster, sculpted by Shawn Nagle. It's flat on the back, made for wall hanging. I painted it to look like it is being lit by a red light on the right side.

I have some questions about this avatar thingee...

I have a avatar I put on my yuku info.  Though it only shows when I sign in at this one site, through yuku, at the Classic Horror Boards, and does not show here on UMA site, or at the Halloween Mask Assoc boards when I post there.

When it does show up at postings on Classic Horror it has my name MrDark1 as I want, and my selected picture, and also after MrDark1 it has universal monster army id or something?

Can any one teach this old Mummy some new tricks?  If you could please help me, I sure would appreciate it-sorry to stop this tread for this, but I saw an opening.

My Nom de Guerre is the headshot of the wax figure of T.E.Lawrence used on the Sgt.Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band group photo. Likewise for "Meek" which comes from the George Bernard Shaw play "Too True To Be Good". I have a long standing interest(some 30 years now)in T.E.Lawrence and have over 80 books by or about him--a new old volume arrived t'other day and my overflow bookshelf for said collection is now full.

I have a avatar I put on my yuku info.

This isn't a Yuku board, so nothing you do there will have any effect here.

Go to your UMA Profile. Under "Modify Profile" click on "Forum Profile Information", check the box for "I have my own pic:" and add the pic's URL (URL should end in .jpg. or .gif), then click on "Change profile".

If you don't want you avatar to be distorted, it should be trimmed to a square. You should check to see what your pic will look like at 100x100 pxls before using it. If you need a place to host your photo, http://imageshack.us/ is a good one.

Easy to tell who mine is--Boris Karloff, the king!  From a 1968 LIFE magazine cover, when Karloff was old--and I'm not so young myself any more!  The quote under the avatar is Boris's, and it could well have been said by most of us monster kids!

My "name" here, typhooforme, refers to Peter Cushing--that was the brand of tea he used at home, Ty-Phoo!

And as regards friend Creepy Jeff, above--yep, he's creepy, all right!  That's why I like havin' him as a friend.  The creepier the better, ya know!

We had a guy on our road pull something similar one Halloween, dressed as Michael Myers. My brother and I both thought it was a dummy sitting out in his yard, until he got up and started walking around. The scariest part was, when we passed that house on the way back, he was gone.

Mine's obviously Herman Munster but that's me giving him the return "hmphhh" look.  We're agreeing about something, though I can't remember what.  I loved the Munsters when I was a kid because it was the closest thing to horror movies I could get to without being sent to bed!

For the wee kiddies I just stood there and let get their goodies obviously, but the older ones were fun.  A few were pessimistic to doubt me from the get go and the trick there is I didn't give them the satisfaction of knowing they were right, but let them leave thinking I was in fact a mannequin.  I was standing off from the house in my "other yard" so as not to look like the set up mannequin with the candy bowl, but was lit up with red lights from below so that I was sure to be noticed when they passed by.  Then could sneak up behind them as they were getting their loot and when they turned around I was standing over them.  That worked great.  The best was a couple teenage girls and it was late, and most had called it a night.  The streets in my area were otherwise empty and quiet and I was about to call it a night myself when I saw them coming down the street (my "other yard" is at the end of a T intersection so I had a great view).  They were done and not coming to the house, but stood on the sidewalk waiting for someone, either their ride or a friend I don't know, they didn't say much (which worked to my benefit, leaving the intersection in silence).  The odd tap on the fence post with my old rusty sickle I has holding and the odd whisper set them on edge and created an odd mood.  They finally decided to pay attention to me and come closer and when I jumped at them they went off like roman candles.  Most would scream, jump and have a good laugh these two just ran off shrieking and not looking back.

The saddest part is it worked out so well I won't be able to do it again this year.

That's the problem is this is done enough that I had to find a way to disarm everyone in to honestly buying I was a mannequin.  That's why I decided to set up in another yard altogether and put the costume out early.

Thanks for the great response folks....a lot of fun to read.  Just changed my avatar to go with my screen name.  Here is Bogart in The Return of Dr. X.  Considering the forum's theme, it was about the only Bogey film that lined up neatly.  On the classical music forum that I haunt, I change my Bogart pics often, but for here, this just may be permanent.  I read that Karloff was wanted for this film, but not available.  I am a big Bogart fan, but they probably should have waited.  ;)  Total miscast IMO.  :)

Update: Just cannot stick with X.  I guess I will go with this scene from Dark Passage....a Bogey movie I truly enjoy.  Not a horror film, but the bandages on the mug make it work.  :D  Plus, Lauren always makes a nice addition to any avatar IMO.  ;D

... So, what could a gallant Gentleman do, except, BUST 'ER CRAB!
... Which I did, in a FLASH, GORDON!
... She offered me a BUCK, ROGERS!
... Oh, well, now, you'll, probably, want, to TARZAN & FEATHER Me!
... Seems, like, I've DUNG this joke, for EONS!
... A SMILE, dear Brother, is infectious! If Moi visage, and, e'en, more, the content, of my silly blathers, incites a SMILE, to grace Thine own countenance, then, I shall have succeeded, in my mad Master Plan, TO RULE THE WORLD! MUA-HA-HA-HA-HA-ET-CE-TE-RA!
... Here, endeth the Epistle. Yet, another classic example, into "how" HORROR HOSTS "Think"! OXYMORONIC, as it is... Count yourselves, as fortunate, if such a Hideous Curse doth, not, ill-betide YOU!

My Avatar is of comic Horror Host  UNCLE CREEPY.  Uncle Creepy and Cousin Eerie were the one's introducing horror stories for me, we weren't lucky enough to have TV horror hosts growing-up as most were.  I hold Uncle Creepy and Cousin Eerie in my rotting ol' heart, the same way others hold Zacherle or Elvira dear to them.  Even growing up with the monster movies, the Warren magazines stories provided my most cherished monster memories.  When chosing a name and avatar, Uncle was my first and most obvious thought.  It may not be movie related, but it's part of my monster childhood.

Mine's one of the obvious ones, me and Uncle Forry. This was a big day for me back in Jan of 2001, and right after I left the Ackermansion I drove directly to Holy Cross Cemetery and visited Bela's grave, as well as a number of my relatives who are interred there. It's just my favorite image from one of the best days of my life.
