Title: Your dream room, what is it?
Post by: Bonomo on April 18, 2011, 09:11:37 PM
Ok you've got one room in your house, money is no object, you can design it and fill it however you please, what would you do with it?
Mine would be a big library/study filled with antique books and comfortable leather furniture near a giant fireplace.
Go.

If money were no object we would be living in a penthouse atop some sky scrapper somewhere hopefully where the weather is cold (I love the wet) and we would have our cats first and foremost plus we would like to open a huge shelter for abandoned or injured animals.

My room would be a period authentic 60s-70s room filled with furniture and bric-a-brac from the era.

Dream room?  That would a TARDIS white control room from the 1970s Tom Baker era.  As cool as the wood panel auxiliary control room was, I really dig the old style main control room.

YOU READ MY MIND BROTHER.  Complete with selves of period pieces, hip furniture, hanging beads for a door, posters, and all kinds of mean ugly groovy things.  Since all my collections already revolve around this era, they would fit the room nicely.

Wonder if I can sell Karen on doing our whole house with that theme.

My dream room would be an extremely large room that looks older like it's part museum, part library, but has an area for TV/movie viewing.    There would be plenty of display cases and the walls would be filled with great displayed items and memorabilia.  Of course, it would have to havae a secret passageway to lead to other great rooms.  Some interactive "haunted" stuff would be nice too.  I wish Extreme Makeover" would stop by my house and bring some of Disney's Haunted Mansion imagineers with them...

Mine would be the top room of a turret on the side of the house. Large green leather wing-back chair, bookshelves, fireplace, and at least one secret panel that leads to my hidden basement laboratory!!

It would be a big one. Along one wall would be several Gottlieb pinball machines from the seventies and a soda pop vending machine from the sixties. Positioned somewhere to maximize acoustics would be a turntable anchoring a state of the art sound system. Two steps down from the area with the pinball machines would be an area with a large picture window overlooking a ravine filled with sugar maple. red oak, white oak, elm and beech trees. Along the walls of this area would be enough space for around a dozen bookcases for all my books as well as wall cabinets for all my collectibles. In the middle of it all would be several Laz-Y-Boys, bean bag chairs and a comfortable L-shaped couch.

I'd have another room big enough for a slot car track and yet another billiard room with a snooker table. I'd have a several acre lot large enough for a garden railroad. That would be paradise!

I have many dreams .. one room would be in a house somewhere in a coastal area near a swamp or marsh with a stream or creek running through the property .. I can look out and see my raft and canoe .. there is a very cool tree house nestled in one of the trees, complete with a hammock and other comforts ... I can see my flower and vegetable garden, the melons growing on long vines .. squirrels, birds, skunks, possums, foxes and other wildlife visit in peace.

The room is comfortable ... a woodburning fireplace ... comfy couches and chairs ... artwork on the walls ... a large curio that holds my crystal and other collections ... a first class stereo system ... a flat screen television where I can watch movies of all sorts on cold rainy days. Multiple scratching posts for the cats.

A place to relax, read, have conversations, be at peace with the world.

Mine would look very much like the library in BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. Heavy oak tables, prehistoric comfy furniture silver  candlesticks and a couple of Borzoi dogs..  There would also be enough book cases  so I could actually "Dewey" all my books.  There would be tall, gothic windows with fusty drapes, plenty of Typhoo Tea and sandwichs.

Lastly, the old conservatory would be the sanctum  for an electrically inclined, 21st century Baron named Hank.  Hank is absent mindedly  pottering round in a velvet smoking jacket and blue jeans...setting up one half of the room as a massive computer network, and the other half as a media center...with a humongous flat screen and phenomenal sound system.  Suddenly I hear a loud "CRACK! and see flashes of blue light.  The power has blown AGAIN

Hank comes into the library with candles and flashlights as we sit and watch the storm...smiling as we look at the picture of a 19th century Baron over the fireplace.

I had the good fortune to design my master bathroom.  I wanted a jacuzzi, and a TV, not in the same place, of course, but no phone jack.  the jacuzzi is a corner tub and it's wonderful.  It's a dark pinkish color.  I made on concession, a shower for my hubby.  It's definitely female and I graciously allow my hubby to use it.  Of course I wanted to skip having a kitchen but I was talked into it because of resale value!

My dream room would have built in shelving from floor to ceiling to hold my books, cds, dvds (with room for more). Lots of comfy chairs and sofas to nap on and for friends to sit in. On one wall there would be a screen that would scroll down from the ceiling for watching movies/tv. I really like old  furniture and dark wood and I like the Victorian era so the furniture would be a blend of Victorian and up to 1930's look. Potted palms, rubber tree plants, succulents abound, lush oriental carpets on the floor.  A few Tiffany lamps would be nice. Maybe mix some more current articles in the room to shake things up a bit. Oh, and old movie posters (I wish) on the walls along with other framed pieces. Nothing much. Just your usual run-of-the-mill dream room.  ;)

My dream room is coming soon in the near future. It will the ultimate music room,
in my eyes. Featuring different eras of music, from the 1950's through the present.
The room will consist of: red walls, black trim, baseboards, and doors. Two walls
will have shelve units holding various rock n'roll and music related items: books, cds,
music dvds, 7"&12" vinyl, rock n'roll collectibles. Plus non- related RN'R items. The
other walls will be adorn with: framed music posters, autographed pictures,
framed 7"&12" vinyl, and various music items.

This music room will also feature many great bands, artists and singers: David Bowie,
KISS, T-Rex, MISFITS, MOTORHEAD, The Stooges, SeX PiStOlS, Buck Owens, Hank
Williams, The Rolling Stones, Steely Dan, Frank Sinatra, Motley Crue, Iron Maiden,
White/Rob Zombie. Just to name a few.

That is my dream rooms. To be surrounded by awesome music. >:D

I would like to have a large room with tons of my dvds, vhs tapes, cds, etc. tons of vintage movie posters, monster toys/games to the max, tons of books on a shelve of my choice, huge window with deck to sit on, also with a view, lazy boy chair and large couch and huge flat-screen tv for viewing films and what not. I would like to have a projector with a screen where I could have film reels to watch. I would also like to have a small cooling storage center, with a bar in the back. Air conditioned area with comfort zone to the  max, filled with monster stuff. Can't get enough of that! I would like to have a huge stereo system for playing heavy metal records as loud as I want

I've decided to add a giant truck tire with a huge logging chain, suspending it from the ceiling, to one end of my "dream" room.  That side of the room will have giant wall murals featuring mountains, forests & swamps with depictions of huge silverback gorillas, bigfoot, skunk apes & other hairy man-like beasts.  I could swing on the tire all the way to the Kong-Tiki bar, grab a banana daiquiri, and swing back to the other side.  There, I would leap off, landing in my favorite monster- movie- viewing chair and settle in for a night of monstrous grooviness surrounded by even more monstrous grooviness!

I'd just like a room stocked with every electronic/mechanical/animatronic toy dog from the 70s to today. FurReal Dogs, Feelin' Special Pets dogs, Napper, Crackers the Dog, Zhu Zhu Puppies, Talking Wrinkles dogs, Poo-Chi and more. If it's a toy dog with mechanical or electronic innards it'd be in there. Since the room would obviously be dog themed I'd cover the walls in posters of Spuds Mackenzie, the dog from the old Bud Light beer ads. I loved that dog when I was a kid and he's one of the few pleasant memories I have of my childhood.

A bit single minded, and a bit of an odd obsession I know. But it makes me happy.

robodog-I'm not sure if you're old enough to remember, but Radio Shack used to be the remote control (with a wire attached) HQ for battery operated dogs and back in the 60s/70s they had the stuffed dogs (I had a pink poodle) with AM/FM radios inside them too. I just remember thinking how very futuristic it was back then, walking my remote controlled dog and wondering if passersby thought it was a "real" dog- hahaha!! It was soooo cool to have a robotic pet back then- never would I have imagined a Fur Real pet!

I remember the radio shack radio animals. When I was about four I had a cat one  I called "Cosmic Cat". It was one of the main things on my Christmas list that year. I never knew they had dogs. Now I want one!

I didn't know about the remote controlled dogs from Radio Shack. They sound great! I know the now defunct company Axlon made a series of robot pets called Petsters in the mid 80s. There was a cat. a bigger deluxe cat, two dogs ( though one, the Pupster, is incredibly rare ), a dinosaur, a spider, a hamster and a penguin.  The more common dog was remote controlled. The cats responded to claps. I'm not sure about the others. A month or so ago I started doing research on older electronic dogs from the 80s. There were a lot more back then than I thought. I consider my childhood incomplete for not having any of these dogs in it. If I ever get my grubby little paws on a time machine one of the first things I'm going to do is remedy that.

Not quite.. I can add something. Make your movie-viewing area on a post shaped like a treetop and high above the rest of the room.

My dream room would have one wall devoted to Gamera stuff, one wall to other Japanese live action pulp culture like Ultraman and Godzilla, another wall mainly of Kong and the Gillman stuff...with another wall having a huge flatscreen tv.

Oh, scratch that, people need to be able to sit down I suppose...well, ok then, one enitre wall devoted to Gamera, Ultraman, Godzilla, Kong and the Gillman figures and collectables (with a few other figures here and there like Robby the Robot and Frankenstein's Monster)....two large couches and a recliner (for me ;D), heck a large bean bag of some sort, some inn tables, a coffee table...and of course the room would be covered in framed movie poster as well...I want this, someone make it happen please!

If I had my way, the living room would be decorated in Victorian style, while all other rooms would be an early 70's flashback.  The garage would be transformed into the Bat Cave, as close to the comics as possible including fake stalagtites.  Unfortunately, the wive shoots down all my ideas I come up with.  I'm lucky I have my one monster room library.   :(

I don't understand that. Your ideas all sound good to me.

My dream room involves Dalla Cowboy Cheerleaders.  That's all I'm going to say.   8)
Can you let me have one or two? Send whichever ones you want, I'm not that picky. LOL

Mine would be a museum of everything monsters. Posters, models, masks, vintage toys, etc. I think I would commission an artist to paint the walls with the classic Universal Monsters as well.

Myself I've acquired a taste for Mennonite furniture crafted from hardwoods such as walnut or oak.

So no more thoughts on dream rooms after all these years and so many new members?

My dream room would be all Cherry wood and mahogany with a fireplace.  The wall opposite of the fireplace would have book shelves from floor to ceiling.  A large wooden desk on one wall with a book shelf behind it.  Near the fireplace would be two large chairs and a couch to smoke cigars and converse.  Along the other wall opposite the table would be a large television with large cigar humidors on each side.
