I really like the whole idea of monster dolls, at least they'll have a back story.

We saw these at Wal-Mart this evening, and my daughter wasn't interested in them.  Not "monstery" enough for her, I think.

Meanwhile........on the other side of town......... I was at Toysrus yesterday to buy my grandson a new bionicle-Hero Factory,   for passing his swim test,  and I asked him to help me look for one of the Monster High Dolls. We went up and down the Barbie aisle, much to his chagrin, and could NOT find any of them! However, I spent a solid hour on the Monster High website. I printed out my school ID, took quizzes, downloaded a "Frankie Stein" wallpaper, and watched cool video clips. I was delighted and entertained by all the characters and I planned which dolls I totally have to get and at some point I remembered I was 47.  Wow, I still want one.  On a side note- the Bionicle Hero Factory toys are outstanding!

Not that I was paying attention, but I saw some monster boy classmates in one of the videos I watched on the Monster High website.

The only male doll right now is a Gorgon, Deuce Gorgon, but as charp said there are other male monsters roaming the halls of Monster High.

Ok, my obsession with Monster High grows with each passing day!  I found the soft Frankie doll at ToysRUs and bought it today :)  She's so cute and slightly nostalgic (rag doll) and I gave her little pet "Watzit" to my grandson because he thought it was cool. I then took it too far and went on the website with my grandson, and made him generate a school ID and read the bio on Deuce.  He likes Deuce because we just watched Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, and Deuce is Medusa's son and he has a cool hairdo called a "Snake-hawk", a mohawk with snakes!!!  Yay!!!  I now have 2 weeks to de-program my grandson before he starts Kindergarten and tells anyone about any of today's Monster High events.....I don't want to be the "weird" grandma..........That stuff is just so charming!!   I might get the Wolf-girl doll and then I'll stop.

I saw a nice display of these dolls in Target today.  The store display had all of the dolls standing in a plastic case.  There was a small video screen underneath.  I pushed the button and a short cartoon played showing Frankie Stein trying out for a fear leading squad.

I hope you ran away- Judd!   These dolls are sooooo cute, you'll end up under their spell! Now I understand those beanie baby people from the 90s. They are adorable- I made my husband look at them for 15 mins. at Toys R US. So far I just have the one doll, but if my little girl wasn't 29, I would buy them all!

I went to Target this moring and most of the dolls had been sold.  There were only a few left.  The sea monster/creature dolls were all gone.

I didn't buy one though.

I saw them today at TRU and was thoroughly underwhelmed.  Perhaps if they were Barbies paying tribute to the classic monsters, then my reaction would have been different, but these are just too "cutesy."  They're sort of Bratzish, and since I never thought Bratz were very good looking, I guess my reaction to these was the same.

I guess if a certain sect of the public and monsterdom finds them attractive, then that is good.  But, I won't be giving them a second thought.  Let's hope that the DS Monsters do not disappoint when they hit the shelves.  At least I know I will be buying those no matter what.

Over the weekend, my grandson reported to me that he saw the Monster High commercials twice while watching Nickelodeon. And of course I started singing- monster monster high, monster high- the song they play on the website. So, it's a done deal! We will all be seeing them everywhere soon!!!  Embrace the teens of Monster High!  hahahahah!  I guess it could be worse, although I don't care for the shoes that Frankie wears. They look too mature for a high schooler!

Hooray!  It all worked out in the end!  However, I was concerned about the headmistress carrying around that riding crop...Yikes!
