So ghouls,
Which is your favorite pages in blood and guts?
"The horror...the horror!"
Right now I gotta give it up for Horror Hound, I look forward to getting every new issue.
Famous Monsters of Filmland, hands down. Scary Monsters Magazine (not listed) a close 2nd.
I don't know about blood & guts per se, but these two titles cover the whole imagi-movie spectrum (horror/fantasy/sci-fi) in the most unique way IMO.
Im with zombiehorror, even though i have only 1 issue and was a awesome issue.

You should really check out some other issues! I came in on #3, immediately back ordered #1 & 2 and got a subscription....been renewing ever since. Horror Hound is the new Famous Monsters! What FM did for the classics of the 30-60's, HorrorHound is doing for films from the 70-90's, 'cept without the puns. Not to say they don't also pay respect to the classics because they do that too.

i have issue #22. I need to get more.
I voted Other but it really is a toss up between Scary Monsters, which should have been on the list, and Horror Hound. Horror hound is a great mag and scary monsters is in depth and just plain fun.
FM........can't be duplicated or surpassed.
Famous Monsters of Filmland
I'd go to Steve's Sweet Shoppe after Terry's Barber Shop for a haircut as a kid. I would get a Coca-Cola, Hamburger and Fries and then would get a comic (usually Werewolf by Night) or FM.
The neighborhood kids would sit around on my porch and we'd look through all of them some afternoons.
FM
Rue Morgue is the best now. But Castle of Frankenstein was the best back in the day. Loved Monster Times too.
No SCARY MONSTERS on the list? Yeesh....

Ah, those were the days!! Actually, my dad was the town barber. His shop was called The Lakeside Barber Shop, and right next door was The Lakeside Diner (In case you hadn't guessed............we lived on a lake.) Next door to the Diner was Mayo's Drugs.
So, my routine was much like yours. Haircut needed or not, most Saturdays I would ride my bike down to dad's barber shop, and sit in one of the vacant barber chairs listening to all the town gossip. Some days dad would send me over to the Diner to get a burger and a Coke, and then off to Mayo's to buy FM or a comic book. Then back to sit in a barber chair to read until he told me to get the hell out and go play LOL!!

Sorry 'bout that. :-\
Famous Monsters of Filmland
& yup, got it after my trip to the barber shop, too~ ;D
My number two is absent, The Monster Times. Always felt like I was reading a real newspaper. ;D
...and my tie for number one, Castle of Frankenstein (for content/style; FJA/Warren's FM wins for pure nostalgia.) And yes, Bogey. MT was GREAT!
(But I guess the poll-starter meant. "TODAY's mags?")
Great weekend,

You as well, Craig. And I am glad he made this list because as of right now I do not get any. Which from the list features mostly old school monsters/sci fi?
Scary Monsters is my favorite. I love the cover art, the articles are fulfilling and I love the way the pages feel :) Does anyone still have any copies of "Wicked" magazine? I was obsessed with it when it came out and then it disappeared.
1. FM
2. Fangoria
3. Rue Morgue
4.HorrorHound
My favorite horror magazine is CREEPY , with THE MONSTER TIMES being second. The original FM a very close third.
I am a magazine collector. So, number one would be Famous Monsters/FM
then FANGORIA, Rue Morgue, Creepy , Eerie, HorrorHound and Monsters Unleashed.
I like classic fangoria, exluding that I'd have to choose famous monsters

FANGORIA, still to this day, will always rule the magazine stands.
I concur.
Fangoria is awesome! The classic Horror magazine still holds up. Even with todays
compition.
i'm a big fan of Rue-Morgue, but Famous Monsters,Horrorhound and Fangoria are all awesome too!

Famous Monsters of Filmland got my vote.
I am gonna say Horror Hound at #1..... Right behind it at a close #2 is Rue Mourge. Both excellent magazines.
I guess "Monster Times" and "Scary Monsters" are lumped into the "Other" category in this poll.
(http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Balticprince/TMT01.jpg) (http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Balticprince/Monster_Times_jpe.jpg)

Those two are right up there with "Famous Monsters of Filmland" in my own rankings.
cl:)
While not strictly horror, for contemporary reading I'll go with The Phantom of the Movies' VideoScope. (http://www.videoscopemag.com) For classic back issues, nothing beats Forry's FMoF.

Not for those of us who remember back when Fango didn't exist.
Castle of Frankenstein was a great mag, but no place near me carried it on a regular basis. I was also a Monster Times fan. Joe Kane, aka The Phantom of the Movies, was the longest-serving (and last) editor of TMT. At one time, Fangoria was supposed to release a DVD-ROM of all TMT back issues. Then the economy tanked, and the project got cancelled.
UNDYING MONSTERS
I haven't bought anything but a few Filmfax since the late 70s.
I want to like Scary Monsters but I have a hard time reading it -the layout seems sort of chaotic, and the print is small.
I love Little shoppe of horrors because the Klem keeps it as a family atmosphere and the articles are always so well informed. As for the others Castle of Frankenstein and Monsters from the vault get my vote.
I believe, in my humble opinion, that Scary Monsters Magazine is the best horror related magazine out. Famous Monsters of Filmland used to be great when Forrey was in charge. Now it seems more of like a "trendy horror" mag. Scary Monsters Magazine hands down---Thank you Dennis D.!
As far as current mags go it would be Scary Monsters (serious oversight not listing that on the poll). For mags from the past I really can't pick just one. I love all of the Warren mags, Castle Of Frankenstein, Monster Times, Skywald Horror-Mood, even Charlton and Eerie Pubs offerings. They all fit together to form a library greater than the sum of it's parts.
If we are talking favorite (as in it can be cancelled, etc.) then Vintage Era Famous Monsters wins claws down. if newer magazines is what we are talking....my original answer still applies:
UNDYING MONSTERS
Sin by Omission. 8)
As for the new Famous Monsters---not the least bit interested. Undying monsters feels more like an old FM than the new issues of FM.
Then (and I am loathe to say it), there is Ferry's magazine. Freaky Monsters. Ferry is a complete (fill in your expletive of choice here), but his magazine is flying off the shelves, and is quite popular on the secondary market as well. My dad buys it....so I get to flip thru it. I am sure someone out there has to be buying it. Even though no one will admit it because of what he did to FJA.
UNDYING MONSTERS gets my vote.
I love Fangoria, but I've recently become a fan of Famous Monsters. As much as I love reading about up and coming horror films, sometimes it's nice to reminise about the classics.
I see a lot of people like Horror Hound. Just out of curiousity, what makes Horror Hound such a great read (vs. all the other ones on the market)?
To me, Horror Hound, Fangoria, Rue Morgue, and Diabolique are all interchangeable. Famous Monster ran a Twilight article....there out....Scary Monsters has been a very cool mag. At monster Bash I picked up Monster Bash Magazine which is a great mag and much along the lines of Scary Monsters mag but with glossy pages.
They are fairly new and I only have a few issues, but Freaky Monsters is a great magazine dedicated to the classic monster movies.
Horrorhound is still on my top 5 list. Along with Fango
and Monster Memories.

One of the features in "Horror Hound" that I like, is a feature where they go to where different horror movies were filmed.

I've flipped through a couple issues of Horror Hound since reading this thread. I like the direction they're going in, but I think the writing in Fangoria and FM is much stronger.
I would choose, Famous Monsters of Filmland, although I also really like the older Fangoria magazines from the '80s

I agree. A truly shameful omission.
:o
I think I'll have to get myself a subscription.
:-\
BTW, which monster magazine would have the best articles on monster related ephemera such as toys?
???

Hepcat. I would recommend both HorrorHound and Scary Monsters.
Oops!!!!
Has to be FMoF
Of course...

I chose Famous Monsters. My first one was issue 101. I had two of The Monster Times, I don't think that The Monster Times made it to my area all the time where I grew up, Griffith, Indiana. After moving to Palmdale, California, I lost track of Famous Monsters until issue #145. If I remember correctly, my picture was published in issue 159.
I picked Monsters from the Vault; they do a nice slick job on some classic material.
If I had to pick the magazine that I found the most interesting and informative (from the golden age of monster magazines) it would have to be Castle of Frankenstein. Only a few issues were published, compared to the other titles, but wow. The first copy I bought was the "Special Vampire Issue". I'll never forget the feeling of plucking that dusky jewel from the magazine rack...

Shut up last years self!!! *SLAPS* Forgive him, for he did not know the history of Freaky Monsters when he spoke so ignorantly.
Now that that is cleared up. My ACTUAL choice would be Fangoria, since I use t get it back when i was in jr high and high school.
