Boy do I! This (and to a lesser extent the LaserDisc jacket) was the last time that cover art was really able to shine.
Album art was inspirational and I'm one of those old guys who is firmly convinced that vinyl LPs will make a comeback when the current generation of music consumers get fed up with crappy compressed MP3 audio.
Man do I! I was an Assistant Mgr at a Listening Booth Record store--thats right kids, Vinyl Records, back before I moved to So Cal. I remember when CD arrived there in 1984.
I think the long box was so people couldn't stick them under their shirts, but then they came out with the magnetic security thingy.
Yes, I remember those longboxes. Unfortunately I never kept any. Zombiehorror, we have much of the same music.
I also remember listening to records and how you would spend the whole time reading the lyric sheet or studying the album art. I love vinyl.
Wow Zombie, cool collection...great music!
That is my favorite S.T. album (well tied with Join The Army) and I see some Ministry: Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste, which was one of the 1st riffs I learned to play..."Burining Inside". Man great stuff.
I remember buying Anthrax's Attack Of The Killer B's like that and thinking a book or something came in it!
They were cool.......many an allowance dropped at Sam Goody!
I think the longbox was designed to fit vertically in the preexisting LP displays/bins.
tHoSE rEaLLY bRiNg BaCk mEmORIES......
Those are cool. That's the sad thing about downloading, future (& present?) that is is. I love the artwork on everything from LP's to CD's to DVD's. I enjoy the art on the disc too, remember LP picture discs?
There's no end to technology, but as a collector, I like something to hold in my hand & look at, be it a book, action figure---or disc, keepcase or jewelbox art.

That is the truth!

Amen.........
Oh, yeah. I went to a Catholic high school and would tape the fronts of the long boxes to the inside of my locker door. Every once in a while we'd have locker inspections to see if kids were stashing weapons or drugs or something and there'd be pin ups of Kirk Cameron and NKOTB and Chad Allen and stuff in girls' lockers, baseball/football players and the odd playboy centerfold or maybe Motley Crue or Guns n Roses pin up in guys' lockers and then Slayer, Dark Angel, Kreator and Cannibal Corpse long box fronts in mine. The nuns and priests were NOT pleased.
Cradle of Filth would have provided some really boss pinup material for you and the nuns.

I have no idea!? I didn't even know an image was missing! I'd have to look thru those longboxes again to see which one violated photobuckets sensibilities!
I guess I'm showing my younger age here, but I don't remember long boxes like that. I remember long boxes, but I remember them being more of a cardboard housing that the actual CD sat in, as opposed to a giant digipak.
I remember these boxes all to well. Some of the labels (and CD's) tried to give some liner notes while other boxes contained only the disc.
I remember when these started hitting Sam Goody's and Tower Records in NJ. I didn't even own a CD player until sometime in the early '90s. :P
