Title: Worldwide copyright legal advice needed
Post by: tv horror on May 05, 2010, 09:49:30 PM
I need someone in the legal profession who could steer me in the right direction about copyrighting an idea. As I live in the U.K I would dearly like to give my idea Worldwide coverage, how would I go about it so that I will be fully covered. Thank you in advance for any replies. All I can tell you is that it is an marine industrial design. I will give you my email address if you contact me by PM, thanks. Also I am very sorry if this off-topic, if you want I'll add a little Godzilla..

My suggestion is that you hire a solicitor/patent agent whose specialty is copyright/design right matters . . . "worldwide" is far too complicated for the novice.

Let me quantify that by saying that I work with patent attorneys (here in the US) every day.

If you lived in the United States I would advise you to go to the US government website and search under COPY RIGHT,

I did this to copyright my film.  The website gives you a tutorial on what to do and how to fill out the forms.  Then you print a copy of the forms, fill them out, enclose a check and a copy of the item that you want copy right protected and mail it in.  Your copy right protection begins the minute you mail the item even though it takes the US copy right office 6 to 8 months to get back to you with a legal document identifying your item and the copy right number assigned to it.

sINCE COPY RIGHTS ARE SUPPOSED TO be similar with nations that abide by international copy right law, I believe that your country should have a similar process.

Good luck!
