Post by: TheWolfman on April 30, 2010, 07:38:59 AM
On this day, April 30th 1965, Helen Chandler passed away. She is best remembered as a victum of Bela Lugosi in the 1931 DRACULA. She played the role of Mina Seward.

A sad ending to a troubled life. She was one of those "classic" beauties.

Scatter, have you read any of the Toby Peters mysteries by author Stuart Kaminsky? They take place in classic Hollywood of the 30's-40's. There's one with Bela Lugosi, one with WC Fields, one with Cary Grant, etc...

Meek recommended them to me years ago, and I've really enjoyed reading them. The one with the Marx Brothers was really good, but the WC Fields and the Salvador Dali are my personal favorites.

Mike, that's new to me..........thanks!! I'll check them out!!

I found a podcast for silent film/Old Hollywood, but it's hard to find much stuff like that out there. Mostly for reading I do biographies of individual players in the founding of Hollywood, or the stars, or stuff about the development of film or LA itself.

You're like me, the last few years I haven't been w/out a book about a Old Hollywood personality, everyone from Bela to DW Griffith, Myrna Loy, Louis B Mayer, Elsa Lanchester, Clara Bow, etc, etc...!
