Today is a sad day for Frankenstein fans. On this day, April 29th, 1992, Mae Clarke passed away. She is known for her role as the "future" Elizabeth Frankenstein.
Clarke is also is remembered for her performance in James Whale's critically acclaimed WATERLOO BRIDGE-- where she played Myra Deauville, a woman forced by circumstances into prostitution.
However, Clarke's most famous role was the one that put her on the receiving end of a grapefruit in the face from James Cagney-- Kitty in PUBLIC ENEMY.

Rather than think of this as a sad day, let's celebrate the fact that Miss Clarke gave us so much of herself in her 40 years on the screen! She'll live on in our hearts as long as film and memory last.
Though she did over a hundred movies in her career, had she done only those three--FRANKENSTEIN, WATERLOO BRIDGE, and THE PUBLIC ENEMY--her name and fame would have been secure!
