...turned 85 last month!
We loved him in Ghost Busters, F Troop, Get Smart and of course, THE GROOVIE GOOLIES!
Last night we had a surprise party for him organized by my pal, Wally Wingert and Larry's Manager, Matt Beckoff.
Here the surprise! That's Matt next to Larry in the blue shirt.

But first Wally brought him out to take part in a Short Film he's doing about an 80's rock band. The last gag in the movie is that there are a bunch of old people in thier 80's who love them.
It was a nice line up for Monster fans.
Here is Janet Ann Gallow from GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN (the little girl), Stell Stevens (Posieidan Adventure and Nutty Professor), Chuck Mcann and Larry among some extras.

Wow, looks like a great evening. Larry looks genuinely surprised and then some in that first picture! "What the...?!?!?!"
Stella Stevens! Man oh man...she still looks great!
Las Vegas Lady!
What a wonderful party! And what a wonderful man.
Kudos to Wally Wingart for putting this together.
(Love that framed picture on the wall of him and Storch in F Troop regalia!)
Hey Dan...did you see the Groovie Goolies figures from Toy Fair?

I had the pleasure of meeting Larry at a couple of the Chiller Theatre conventions in NJ over the years. While we'll always love him for F-Troop, I think my favorite portrayal by Larry was of Charlie the drunk from Car 54, Where Are You. He had a recurring role in a few episodes. [and played other characters too] He would appear to get drunk by just TALKING about his favorite neighborhood bars. This was an incredible display of his acting ability as he went from coherent and sober to raging drunk in about 30 seconds! When my wife and i brought this up to Larry, he lamented about never even seeing many of these episodes [!], but remembered the part very well. [To this day Car 54 is STILL unavailable on DVD...GO FIGURE!] Well i managed to tape a bunch of episodes when they ran the series for a brief time here in NY about 10 years ago, so the next time i saw Larry was to be a guest at Chiller again, i burned him a disc of the episodes i had with him in it...he was very gracious and happy to have it. What a remarkable guy! Thanks for sharing those pics, Dan...great to see Zacherle's old pal, Chuck McCann and Ken Berry too!! I guess Ken isn't much into the convention circuit? It would be SO COOL to meet him !

That wouldn't be Jackie Joseph in the lower right corner, would it? I know she was there, but I haven't seen her since like "Gremlins 2", so I can't really tell.
Prof, thanks , I did not see them.
Amazing.
As for Ken, he sometimes does the "Ray Court" show here in town.
If you ever have a chance to meet him, you won't be disappointed.
Good on you guys, Dan - looks like a great time!
Larry was a "maybe" for the Friends of Old Time Radio con last year who didn't make it; I missed working with, or at least meeting, him.
I have had the pleasure with Chuck McCann, though getting through a rehearsal with your sides intact - even in a drama! - is no easy trick! (Tell him his "Pappy Ford" says "hey!")
Thanks for the pics,
-Craig W.
Mike, she was there, but thats not her, BUT that lady does look just like her.
I didn't realize that she and Ken Berry used to be married untl he told me, that night.
She was also very nice.
How did you know she was there?

If I remember correctly, I think Larry was on my favorite comedy old time radio show Duffy's Tavern.

Mark Evanier (who was also there) had a post about the party on his blog.
"I think Larry was on my favorite comedy old time radio show Duffy's Tavern."
Mike-
May well be - you're the expert!
Speaking of Radio/TV guys, Billy Idelson was supposed to be at FOTR last go-round; wasn't well, & has since passed away, alas.
Best,
-Craig W.

Mike, awesome that you found that!! Are you a radio fan as well?
It's funny, that episode tells about Archie wanting to make a movie. There was a Duffy's Tavern movie, but despite a who's who cast for that time period, it bombed. Which was really a shame. They had a great cast, but the story line was poor.

Somewhat, I guess. I like listening to the sci-fi shows from the '50s ("Dimension X", "X Minus One", etc.).
"Pappy Ford" and "Duke Wayne" in STAGECOACH

Hey - it's the magic of RA-D-I-O!
Craig W. email me and I'll put you in touch with Larry's manager. Maybe he can help arrange for Larry to make your next Radio convention.
Btw, If anyone would like a Larry Storch autograph you can get it here!

Dan's the man!
Take it from a Bethlehem boy like myself!

I met Larry Storch at the I-Con convention last year. He was a total sweetie.
Thanks, Dan'l!
I'm far from in charge of FOTR, though; in fact, I've fought a lonely fight for years, trying to get them to stop treating Non-OTR actors like second-class citizens...
I think a director, or committee member, had contacted Larry's people about last year's con.
(More by email soon, sir.)
Best,
-Craig
DREW BLOOD! WT...
Welcome, my brother from the little town of Bethlehem.
Or as we natives say, Beth-lem
Say, my ol' man used to buy cement pipe from a company in Beth-lem. He worked for Renda Construction out of New Jersey but most of their job sites were in and around Allentown, Ephreta, Lancaster, Lebanon and little towns inbetween. We lived in Reading, so it wasn't a long commute for me Pa to go to work.
"Meek"(Lebanon, aw baloney!)
My girlfriend and her father and I went to the new Saucon Valley Diner in Hellertown and saw a signed picture of Dan on the wall. I marked out and gave her the run down of Lost, The Late Shift, Bubba Ho-Tep and Monsterama....
... making a nut of myself in public.
