I'm curious how many of you found your way to the UMA? Was it a friend? Was it a Google search? Was it a convention? Please share your story. We're glad your here however you found us! I still say it was destiny. ;)
You emailed and told me to join or you'd bust me in the head. At least that's what I recall.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that! :D :D
About a year or so ago, my love for horror movies, particularly the Universal classics, came back after going through my dvd collection. I hadn't seen one of the classics in a long time, so I popped my personal favorite, Frankenstein, in the dvd player to watch. Well, all of those great memories of being a monster kid came flying back in a hurry. So I dug out the old FM collection, found my old 1961 Aurora Frankenstein model (putting it in a prominent position on a shelf above the TV) and began googling Universal Monsters. To my surprise, the UMA link appeared and the rest is history. I know I don't contribute much, but rest assured that I have learned more in this past year than I ever could have imagined. My collection has grown a ton and great friends have been made. My only regret is that I didn't find you guys sooner.
I first noticed the uma while I was a member of the classic horror film forum, then before that I was a member of the Scarlet street forum. I may add that this forum above all the others has impressed me with their knowledge and kindness to fellow members. First of all you have the mad bad Baron Timothy in the limerick thread, followed closely by Terry, Andy, Ray, Ivan, Rob, Anton, Elizabeth and countless others I thank you all for extending me a very warm welcome and of course dear Meek whom I enjoyed answering some emails with over my posts.
I got an email from Raymond a few months ago asking if I would be available to pose for the Blind Date of Coffin Joe picture displaying the Tabloid Witch Awards. I like to think we hit it off ;)
and luckily he told me about all of you
The way I discovered the Fantastic, Awesome UMA, was magic. But, really folks....
I just happened to Google AHI Monsters one particular evening. I kept scrolling to different
sites, then UMA popped up........I was hooked!!!!!
I think you posted an invite on the Yahoo Creature Group.
BK
Since I grew up as a monster kid in the `60's and `70's I have to say: IT WAS MY FATE TO BE HERE.
I actually don't recall exactly, but I'm pretty sure that I found it through a link at Ray Castile's site, The gallery Of Monster Toys.
Rob
Funny, i can't remember exactly what inspired me to join, either. Probably saw it in a relative group list back when joining the Chiller group on Yahoo. I do recall being upset when it was announced the group would be leaving Yahoo for this website... CAN YOU IMAGINE??
I have to blame Ray, too.
i was searching on some collectible toys from universal and ran across the page here not long ago. then when i found out the uma was part of showing the classic toy exhibit i ordered the devil at lost creek dvd to help support it. got to see it at horrorhound indianapolis. it was very cool. hope more people get involved to show off the classic toys.
Google search while being laid up on the couch after shoulder surgery.
Fell in love with the content and it really helped me keep my sanity when there was NOTHING to do, due to injury.
I thought "ah, when I'm healthy again, I wont log in anymore"
Well I'm healthy as a horse nowadays, and the UMA is much like the Hotel California "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave!" :)
John Skerchock's brought up the UMA many times in Scary Monsters Magazine. Finally, I checked it out & eventually joined.
It was right behind the couch, where I had dropped it.
Was sent the link by a friend. Glad he did. Love this place.
One of my early customers and now friends Freddie Poe aka Dr. Vollin had to do some arm twisting to get me to check the UMA out (didn't think I'd have the time to join a monster site or any other for that matter) but once I checked it out, that was it. Been here since January 2003.
If I recall, I originally signed on when it was the Yahoo group, about a year or so before the move to this (vastly superior) incarnation. I was in the middle of a search for classic horror conventions in my neck o' the woods, and simply caught sight of the name Universal Monster Army... way too intriguing to pass by!
I'll always be very happy I looked into it.
It was back in the Yahoo days. My web site was about as half as big as it is now and one day I was checking my e-mail and I got a draft notice from the General himself ordering me to report to the Yahoo Group. He said he saw my site and I should be inducted into the UMA. I was happy to report for duty and have enjoyed the UMA and its members ever since.
I'd seen the UMA mentioned in Scary Monsters and found the link as a member of the HMA. Now I am here everyday vs once a week at the HMA and have about 7 x as many posts here too. It's really my only daily message board now.
Great stories guys! I'm really enjoying reading them. Very interesting stuff. Keep 'em coming.
Found it through the HMA website.
I was googling for info on the Frankenstein Head Speaker and found it through that. It was a Yahoo Group then and the threads were not search indexed like they are today, but I think it was a link off a page I was looking at. Anyway, I got my question answered and have been around ever since!
I was doing a web search for monster groups and UMA popped up so I joined.Best move I ever made because of the friends I have made and all that I have learned since joining.I truely cherish everyone here. :)
I joined when it was the Yahoo group, but can't remember how I got there...
I was also looking up "Universal Monsters" on Yahoo, when UMA came up in the search. The first thing I saw on the UMA site was "Show us your Monster Room", and I was blown away! I immediately ran from the room clutching my laptop and showed the images to my family members and screaming "See, I'm not crazy!!! Other people have way bigger monster rooms than me!". And I probably have looked at those monster room pictures hundreds of times. :)
I'm always looking for Forums that hold my interest, I googled Monster Movies Forums, and came across the UMA.
I liked the layout, the atmosphere, and most of all, the people here..and well, the rest is history :)
I googled FREAKS... and I was taken right to the home page. ;D Nah. I googled frankenstein mask, I think------and I eventually got sent here. I wound up contacting Daniel Horne and got a 'Grim Glenn' Frankenstein mask from him and have just stayed.
Looking up Universal Monsters during lunch one day and there I saw the link, right before Halloween 2008. Perfect timing!

Same for me!
Many of you know as a construction worker I have alot of time on my hands (especially in this economy) and discovered the site during one of my many winter lay offs. As I recall it was thru Yahoo Groups, during the transition period into the incarnation we now know as the UMA. I think I may have signed up at the Yahoo Group but never really posted or even checked the site because I never cared for Yahoos set up. Even if I'm not posting I'm always reading and admiring everyone's posts, collections, artwork and model build ups....Keep them all coming!
The Google got me and showed me the Yahoo group. I've been hanging on for dear life ever since. I'm sure glad I was pointed in this direction.
I found you through a Google Image search on Colin Clive. I saw one of Meek's sketches, and was moved by it. Somehow the thread led to Max's blog, and then I found my way home to UMA.
This is truly the home of ALL monsterkids...
Elisabeth ededed :) :) :) 8) 8) 8)
Gosh I would love to say I Just Apparated to this spot or had a sack put over my head and was shanghaied to the local recruitment center for UMA but alas...that wouldn't be true. No, my story is simple. I found UMA via reading an article on Scarlet Street #3 (about Linda Miller) and that lead me to the Drunken Severed Head blog site (hullo Max!) where I found the link to UMA. Interesting how another UMA member was led here in almost the same way! Oooooo! :o Elisabeth...maybe we were BOTH placed under some hypnotic spell! Boy, folks sure go to great or should I say -ahem!- abby normal lengths to recruit bodies to UMA! Boowahaha! ;D ;D ANYhoo, I am glad to be in such an illustrious army! Ten' hut! :)
I find it very nice, thank you!
Basically, googled "Universal Monsters", and kept seeing the UMA pop up. Not being a big forum guy, I put it off for quite awhile, before lurking about for a month or two. For my birthday in May of '08, I finally joined, and humans have been trying to get me to shut up ever since, ;)!

it's true...he's a regular Talking Tina,without the Tina :)
Ah, I remember it well. It was Feb. 2003 and I was searching through Yahoo! Groups for monster groups to join. I joined a few of them, but the UMA is the only one I stuck with.
July 2009 I was Googling for a Bela Lugosi mask, and was directed to UMA....Still don't have a Lugosi mask, but am a UMA lifer!
OG
I had just been introduced to yahoo groups due to searching for sites where fans of my favorite music groups congregated, and did a search on Universal Monsters and for some odd reason was led to this group.
Strange, ain't it....
;D
Mike
I had just bought a house and had a room for a Man Cave, decided to do a monster man cave, So I googled monster rooms and landed here... and I stayed for the all the cool creative people involved in monster collecting.
I can't remember exactly, a link at Yahoo Horrorhosts or the Classic Horror Film Board, I believe. But all you guys and gals are awesome! I've gained a TON of knowledge and made some new friends. Thank you General and other founding members for the UMA!
was searching Yahoo for Universal Monsters.
I'm a Monster Kid...from the 80's. I never saw them in theaters. but watched with fondness on VHS. when I found this site I was instantly in love
Well, it wasn't that long ago, but my memory isn't clear. I think I was searching "Universal Monsters", as I was having a revival of interest in the monsters of my youth, after reading some articles about Marvel horror comics. I also found the Classic Horror board at the same time, but I have yet to join up there. The group of people over here just seemed so friendly I decided to start posting.
How did I find you all? I bought a Mini Monster after seeing them in a book about Ideal dolls (sorry guys I know they're action figures) and I found one on ebay and bought him. I was looking for information about them and I found you. I started reading posts and I found that I had a lot of common interests. I allowed my geeky nerd side to come out and here I was. A new home.

That how i found it!
Googling 'Tomland Mummy' as I recall.
I was lucky enough to stumble across the poseable monster and he enlightened me to this wonderful world of misfits like myself.
It was a google search. I was looking for an online community that shared my interest in classic monster movies (universal in particular) when I came across this great site. This is the first site that I have ever joined and so far it has been great.
Whilst searching for Universal Monster kits. Thankyou for putting this forum together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I found UMA because i am wanting to show classic films on my new horror host program and need help to get the rights to show the movies.
If anyone can help me get info i would gladly take it.
I found it through Danny Roebuck. He'd been pestering me for months to join. It was difficult to join anything back then ebcause I had AOL dial up. It wasn't until my cable comapny finally offered internet access that I was able to join because now I have more speed, more power. Me feel like big monster now!!!
I was ordered to join by Doctor Shocker. Being a loyal minion, here I am.
About two or two and a half years ago I found Scary Monsters magazine and I love it! But they mentioned the UMA, and I believe that a lot of the people behind the magazine are members here. So I decided to check it out and about a year ago I enlisted! Been happy ever since! Long live the UMA!!!!!!
I found the UMA when I heard about Forry's death. It hit me so hard, and I realized that I had no one with whom I could either mourn his passing or celebrate his legacy. I simply didn't know anyone else who "Got it".
So, while reading about Forry's death, I providentially stumbled across the UMA and found that there are still folks around like me who DO "get it". The UMA has been a Godsend for this MonsterKid!! Thanks for building my home away from home Mon Generale!!
Here's my first post, entered just a few days after Forry's passing. It kinda says it all for me;
"Just stumbled across this incredible MB last night, and knew I had found my new home! It's like the feeling you get finally crawling into your own cozy coffin after having to spend time in a loaner............with cheap polyester lining. AHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Where have you people BEEN all my life ?? I thought my son and I were alone in our Universal Monster obsession."
