Just to let you all know, we have now set up the "Bring Classic Horror Films Back to Television Alliance"!

Come and check out our new blog and don't forget to sign the petition!

http://bringclassichorrorbacktotelevision.blogspot.com/ (http://bringclassichorrorbacktotelevision.blogspot.com/)

We really appreciate your support, and if you are able to mention this on any other forums, websites or blogs we'd be really grateful!

Just had to add, I was lucky enough to attend a screening of "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man"(1943) at my local cinema the other week. It was great to see such a classic on the big screen!!!

Can you bring them back to Mexico?  My cafe could use the extra business.  www.monstercafesaltillo.com (http://www.monstercafesaltillo.com)

I think they've been listening- they showed Taste of Fear, two Quatermass films and the Gorgon in the last month!

Definately a step in the right direction! Now we need to get them shown at a reasonable hour! LOL

Seriously, for anyone who's interested (I guess this appeals more to the UK contingent but we are grateful for ALL support and signatures on our petition) it's worth emailing BBC Points of View, Radio Times (radio.times(*at*)bbc.co.uk) and whoever else you can think of to suggest bringing back BBC2's Horror Double Bills and classic horror films in general.

If any of you have any suggestions as to how we can get more publicity and widen our campaign, we'd be really grateful! Thanks!!

Why do you want them back on TV? Just go get the Legacy collections and you can watch them whenever you want.

Because I and many others can't afford to keep buying dvds.

And because it would give todays kids the opportunity to see classic old movies they've most likely never even heard of.

And because in the UK, there is a massive nostalgia attached to the old networked Horror Double Bills on BBC2.

Just check out peoples comments on our petition and you'll see what people think and why we want them back on television.

I'm all for more classic horror on the BBC and would have signed the petition if it was free! Call me tightfisted but my £150 BBC TV licence is due! I'll have a look at the one on facebook  ;)  I prefere it when they're shown at an ungodly hour it adds to the mood.

Thank you for providing that petition, cyberschizoid. I read it and most of the people said the same old crap about old horror being classic and new horror being garbage, blah blah blah, but one person actually said something of merit.

QuoteI grew up watching the Hammer double bills on BBC 2. Real shame that Hammer and especially RKO films do not get shown anymore. Scary thing is kids will grow up not watching black and white films and not know influences that make modern horror films today.

I can totally understand that. That is why it is so important for them to make that Blu-Ray box set with both remastered color and remastered black and white version of every single movie from all six legacy sets. They have to understand the era that we are in and make the movies more accessable to the hi-def generation. Once they have seen them, they will check them out in their glorious black and white.

It isn't like the DVDs are that expensive. Just get the six legacy sets. Anyway, I can see why some might want them back on TV too. I'm not saying that wouldn't be cool and all, but I think the better way to share classic movies with your kids is by getting the six legacy sets, watching the movies, then watching the documentries that come with it.

It's fun watching them on TV. I can't explain it, but it's fun! Films I have on DVD or could easily buy on DVD still make me cheer when I see they are showing them, and then scream when they're being shown at 2 am!

I agree--I think it's knowing that there are other people out there having the same experience at the same time.

It's a strange one that. When I go to my DVD shelves to pick a film to watch I can never decide which one as I've seen them all before or don't fancy one or whatever, yet if I'm watching TV I find myself enjoying one of the movies I've just rejected!

Yep! it's all about the shared experience!

Also, for those in the UK the Classic Horror Campaign is screening some cool old movies at various venues around the country. The next one coming up is a weekend of classic horror in manchester!

Watching these great movies with other classic horror fans is definately a fangtastic shared experience!!!

I signed your petition.

Here is the comment I attached:

1. The old, classic horrors appeal to the older audience for nostalgic reasons.

2. They appeal to the adult audience because of their adult themes.

3.  Kids LOVE monsters

4. The movies were made long ago enough to be rated G for family viewing.

5.  They can be inexpensively procured for broadcast.

Please institute a regularly (weekly?) airing of classic monster/horror/mystery films that can be seen at an early enough hour for the whole family to watch.

Thank you.

Hope someone there will listen.
